No one believes in a total panic. The only "panic" I saw was back in March when grocery store shelves started being emptied of certain goods. But for the most part, things have settled down.
I see Americans panicking. Lot's of folks defying the rules set by the experts. Americans have always had an independent streak, started with the 'separatists' who settled here in 1620. We've been through world wars, civil wars, Spanish flu, HIV, small pox, diphtheria epidemics but this is the first time folks have been arrested for swimming in the ocean, for cutting other peoples hair, for trying to run small businesses that compete against Wal-mart. It's the first time Men in charge have actually said they want to keep quarantined until a vaccination (which could be years away) comes. Are folks panicking? Yes! and it's the smart-ass experts and bureaucrats that are saying the most foolish things. Give me liberty or give me death! Patrick Henry.
Right, it was the "smart-ass experts and bureaucrats" who suggested disinfectant injections and finding a way to shine UV light inside our lungs. It was the "experts" who touted hydroxychloroquine as some kind of treatment/cure for the virus and who then had to pretend they never did that (sounds like a certain church I know of) when that chemical proved to be of no use after all.
Oh wait, it wasn't the experts or bureaucrats at all. It was the Administration and its propagandists who actually said "the most foolish things."
The problem is deciding who goes in which zone. Where do the people in the masks go? Where do the large guys in flannel shirts with assault rifles slung over their shoulders while obstructing the front steps at the capitol go?
The reason you couldn't see any relevance is that there wasn't any relevance to see.
Words and phrases just pop into my head, and sometimes I write them down.
This is a GREAT forum and I want to keep it great so I will work on restraining myself.
HOWEVER....
Having posted some irrelevant stuff, I will try to MAKE it relevant.
Do they call it a "Pandemic" because the Great God Pan has something to do with it?
Does the Great God Pan WANT us to panic?
If we do not panic, will the Great God Pan go away ant take his Pandemic with him?
It's worth a try.
I myself, have lots of reason to panic. I am 67 years old, and I am STILL a working girl, and I live from paycheck to paycheck. Lately, there haven't BEEN any paychecks.
But I am NOT going to panic if it will only make things worse, and I am ready for the Great God Pan to GO AWAY.

And remember, word play is encouraged. CZ hasn't put that in the board rules yet, but that's just because he is trying to add another esoteric allusion before posting it.
If he had his way we'd be experiencing not a pandemic but a pundemmic.

"I love being told that I have an irrational fear of a deadly virus by people who are afraid of immigrants, LGBTQ, brown & black people, working women, windmills, vaccines, electric cars, voting by mail, universal health care, environmental protections, higher wages & face masks."
There is one person on the board who is panicking and I won't name names, but their initials are thedesertrat.
Hanging onto a meatless bone like an old junkyard dog is the very definition of panic. Terrified that that anyone else who is talking in facts, statistics and common sense could be right because then their precious glass castle of denial would shatter.
