Wind, solar, hydroelectric, and geothermal are not primary sources of power.

They convert energy from the sun, the heat of the Earth, or the potential energy of gravity into electricity but do not generate power ab initio.

Heat from chemical or nuclear reactions are primary sources of enegy.

Whatever the source, the entire cycle has to be carbon free or carbon neutral.

Didn't get the chance to make that clear before.

Since large nuclear fusion reactions are difficult/impractical to manage here on earth and nuclear fission is more dangerous in the long run than fossil fuels , it looks like we're stuck with secondary sources of power as our primary power source for now.

The biggest challenge has to do with energy density. What would the cost be of enough solar panels to match the output energy of one gram of fissionable material and how much space would they take-up? Wave power exists in huge quantities, but is very expensive to harvest compared to oil.

The goal to get carbon free or carbon neutral for energy production is worthy goal but not attainable in the near future. When I was in college, it took roughly seven years to break-even on the energy pay-back on photovoltaic solar module. That's energy return over time with respect to the energy required to make the solar module, not anything to do with money. I am sure it's come down a bit since then. To replace the terawatt hours that we use each year, with solar modules would take a huge energy investment all by itself, putting aside those terawatt hours that we're currently using each year already on an increasing amount every year. The long-term investment for solar power would eventually pay back, plus more. Solar thermal is much more efficient but then you typically require mechanical means to turn that heat into electricity.

In college, a friend was telling me how proud his mother was to have purchased an all-electric car, because it only required electricity (clean energy). He corrected her to point out that her car ran mostly on coal, the most prevalent source of electricity at the time.

Seems to me the chemical energy is hydro-carbon base.
Coal, natural gas etc is the result solar power, i.e. the sun.

Therefore the only pure power is nuclear, the same process as the sun which is just one huge nuclear reaction.

IMHO, nuclear is the only logical power source if humans continue to multiply and use up all the other resources on the planet.

What this has to do with RFM, I don't know.

What does this have to do with RFM?

Solar power, nuclear power, priesthood power ... it all leads right back to Kolob!

Damn, head slap, never thought about Kolob, my bad.

No worries. I think missing all that Sunday school during the Shutdown has dulled the edge for many. (Not for me though.)
