If I want covid material, there are plenty of resources. Far better commentary and much better manipulation of statistics to look like facts. The fact is no one has a solution for it and if they did they haven't done a damn thing about it.

But everybody is a medical genius these days including software programmers who weren't even good at that so they had to steal operating systems and programs from other people. The media and their experience du jour is not my God neither is Joseph Smith.

Primarily, I come here for information, entertainment and community to receive and give back to while I complete my long term healing process. I may fail in my attempts to give back or help others along the path but that is why I value and visit this site.

Not for FEAR PORN.

Well, when I last counted more than half of the posts on the first page were on topic. But I understand. I'm on some private teacher groups for my school district, and the teachers in my district are losing their collective minds about going back to school. I feel the need to stay informed, but sometimes it feels like it's too much.

It's called "over processing"

Let's just hope nobody who dies of covid was guilty of statuary rape. Then we'll have to debate whether to be sad or outraged, and whether the statue should be toppled.

I'm just saying. It could be worse.

“The fact is no one has a solution for it and if they did they haven't done a damn thing about it.”

If you personally had a solution for it, how would you get it out there? Lots of people have gotten in trouble for claiming they have a cure for COVID19.

I’m not afraid of COVID19. I’m confident it will be defeated, just not by means accepted by muggles. Don’t worry, it will go away. Unlike Mormonism, a scourge that’s more like herpes but less contagious.

I can understand your desire to have fewer Covid threads on this site, but titling your thread “Who gives a damn about covid” is a poor choice of words at best, and seriously insensitive at worst.

Who gives a damn about Covid? I, for one, absolutely care.
-a lifelong friend of mine nearly died from it. He was on a ventilator for a while, and he has been told that his lungs and heart will never be the same.
-another friend (and former coworker) who is fairly young, was hospitalized and on oxygen for two months. She’s “recovered” but still doesn’t know the extent of the damage to her lungs.
-I have a sister-in-law who was hospitalized, as was her daughter.

I give a damn.

I give a damn too and anyone that doesn't is delusional. Yes, the younger people may have a lower death rate but that will also give them more time to live with brain, heart, liver, kidney and other issues that will be seen as "pre exiting conditions" for the rest of their lives. Those seeing this as a "Boomer Eraser" are either uneducated or in denial.

Results just came out for a large scale British study. Vulnerable groups for Covid -19 include the elderly, those with underlying health issues, minorities (especially blacks and south-Asians,) and MEN. That's right, men have a higher risk factor apart from the other issues.

Or they accept the collateral damage. “Thanks for the student debt and broken dreams, here’s some nice Covid”.

What I gain from this post is that the issue has become an obsession that overshadows the reality of the danger.
Yes it is a dangerous and devastating disease. However constantly harping on it is not going to make it better faster.
It goes back to the early 1900's when yellow journalism permeated the news papers purely to sell more papers. I think that we should back off this obsession get on with the real purpose of this forum and see what we can do to further our recovery.

It's not "harping on it," it's sharing vitally needed information. Have you even looked at the infection rate for the U.S.? It's headed up like a roller coaster car on the ascent. Obviously, lots and lots of people haven't gotten the memo. And this is still the first wave. We aren't even to the fall yet.

And why are we being shown how many are sick and/or dying RIGHT NOW? Doesn’t that promote a bad epidemiological model in the public mind? Where’s the feed-forward part of the model? The numbers you’re seeing now is where the correct model has already been.

So basically we’re whistling past the graveyard. An honest assessment would tell us how, um, f—ked we are in the words of a famous retired Arizona police officer.

Scientists and health care workers who are working nonstop to provide treatments for careless people who don't give a damn

Once again, no one should have to explain to you why you should care about other people.

Are you a believer in christianity? If so, the one you profess to worship and follow sort of REQUIRES you to do so. If not, you're just short-sighted and selfish. Fair enough.

I'm exhausted too. I'm tired of my now 117 day isolation meaning NOTHING because people "don't give a damn"

I'm tired of people trivializing and joking about something that has taken the life of at least five friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Not to mention the TENS OF THOUSANDS that I didn't know personally.

I'm tired of "leaders" not leading. Not helping. Not caring. Contradicting experts. Denying. Obfuscating. Lying.

I saw a post on FB that perfectly sums it all up:

"Aspects of our Covid exhaustion are due to the reality that many of us are carrying the weight of others' irresponsibility.

Many go about their lives, unencumbered of any feeling of social responsibility, then feel justified in their carelessness, at least partially protected by the herculean efforts of others.

Not only are we carefully navigating a context foreign to us, sacrificially bearing a collective burden, we have to watch those efforts devalued by those who then pretend their carelessness is justified.

We're holding a societal umbrella in a downpour; they're laughing and pretending it's not raining because they're not wet. It's exhausting."

So, go ahead and keep pretending it's not raining. Keep not giving a damn.

And if you "get wet" (i.e. your elderly parents, or a friend, or a co-worker, or YOU die alone in an ICU) I won't give a damn either.
I will bask in my schadenfreude.

Well said! I'm also getting tired of having my going back to work delayed every month because too many people still don't give a damn about Covid. I have a job I love, and I miss those people but until people start giving a damn and wearing a fu**ing mask in public, and staying 6 feet apart from others, I'm stuck at home until that happens.

I can't do my job remotely, so until it's safe enough to go back to work, I can't return to work. I will say that I'm more fortunate than others who can't go back to work because I'm at least getting my full paycheck, and even if I have reduced hours when I'm eventually allowed, I will still get paid full-time. Sorry about the f-bombs and other language, but I'm getting fu**ing tired about selfish assholes who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.

While many react to this post and reiterate what they have said on other posts, I am curious what all the covid discussion has yielded. Has anyone been cured by talking about it more?

Is anyone less at risk?
Any tangible results achieved by our obsessing about it more over countless threads?

Just curious, as I said there are better sources for this information rather than this forum. There is nothing different being said here than what is being said there. People who are concerned for their personal safety have been taking precautions as it should be. What this forum does add is insight into the destructiveness of mormonism and coping with the aftermath or the intra-math.

Just think some people are turning it the covid thing into a religion along with its accompanying shame and sign. Mormonism already gave us this - pointless, endless busy work, stuck in minutae, hoping it would do some great thing and it never did alogn with being no end in sight to it.

If that is what you prefer, great - welcome to mormonism 2.0

> Just think some people are turning it the covid

That is exactly the reason it is relevant to the recovery from Mormonism.

-----------
> along with its accompanying
> shame and sign.

Perhaps. But the opposite is also true. Many people are ignoring science and embracing religious faith that the disease "will just go away" or is a "liberal hoax."

THAT religion is killing people.

-------------------
> If that is what you prefer, great - welcome to
> mormonism 2.0

The religious often fail to recognize that their own beliefs are superstitious.

I’m with you. I am tired of reading about it and hearing about it... and you would seriously have to be under a rock not to know what to do at this point. Those who are deniers are going to have to be hit with it personally to take it seriously. Many of the rest of us are tired of hearing the constant memos, which we have seen in multiple places and read more than once.

I don’t wish this sickness on anyone. I think there will be people who do everything right and get sick. Some will do everything wrong and never get sick. Many of us will be exposed, and some will never know.

I get your point in posting this thread. People are not going to be swayed if they haven’t got the message already. And life has to go on. If I need info on COVID-19, this would not be where I would go for it, anyway.

Options: ReplyQuote

Not really. If you are already doing what the professionals advise, you don’t need a reminder.

The information is out there, and it’s being shared everywhere, from Facebook to Twitter to every major news source. People who haven’t figured it out yet are not likely to be swayed by yet another CNN article shared by someone they don’t know offline.

People who ignore medical advice are going to ignore it, no matter how many people share the latest article. They won’t be convinced until they have to deal with it offline.

It may be that people have learned important facts about the virus. I'm going to say it again, but Topper (of this forum) was the first person that I know of on the web or IRL to sound the alarm about the coronavirus.

The sharing of knowledge and discussion is critically important in an ongoing life and death matter. How many of you have school aged children or grandchildren? I can assure you that right now teachers are in very intense online talks about how to get your kids and grandkids back to school safely. I am in two private online groups for my school district that each have thousands of members, and Covid is very much on our minds. We share relevant articles and posts, and discuss a safe return based on these articles along with our collective experience. We are hashing things out, and coming to shared agreements about critical issues. Our school district is definitely listening to us, because district officials want us back!

The web is the new town square. It is the faculty lounge. It is the place where ideas are exchanged and discussed.

I get if you've had your fill of Covid, and I would just avoid those posts. I wish I could afford that luxury, but right now I am trying to figure out how to help my students survive, and how to help myself and my colleagues to survive.

If you’re sick of hearing about it, then why start a thread about it?
Just ignore any post labeled “Covid”. If you feel the need to click on a post just to tell us how stupid we are to be talking about it, then you’re the one with the problem.

I, for one, have to keep talking about it BECAUSE of people who “don’t want to hear it” or “don’t give a damn”

Again: Want to not think about it? Try and stop yourself from starting or participating in threads clearly “not for you”.

In lieu of the Olympics, Americans want to know what their chances are for moving up the field, in deaths per 100,000 pop.

As it stands now:

First Place: San Marino! - 124.32

2nd Place: Belgium - 85.59

3rd Place: Andorra - 67.53

4th Place: United Kingdom - 67.08

5th Place: Spain - 60.77

6th Place: Italy! - 57.77

7th Place: Sweden! (who are trying the hardest to win) - 53.83

8th Place: France - 44.69

9th Place: USA! - 40.4

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

(Opening Schools in August will boost the USA, moving them past France and within striking distance of Sweden. We'll see. It's still an all European horse race with America doing all she can to crack the top five.)

My problem isn't specifically with Covid, but the fact it has been used to push other agendas, and no one talks about it. The war on cash has been accelerated ("don't touch money, it's dirty... But please use this touchscreen!")... Surveillance of people's movements and friendships has been upped, and censorship has been increased under the guise of "fact checking" and preventing "fake news".

So many of these things have been waiting in the wings for years.

I guess there is a tie in to the Mormon church - create a problem, crisis and then solution - keep tithing, keep your pants on, serve a mission, stay temple worthy etc.

Some people have virtue signaling disease of the mouth and fingers.

They just keep spewing even more of the same talking points fed to them by the same media that just creates more clickbait to consume.

Meanwhile, it will take even more time than previously supposed for scientists to actually figure this out instead of the hasty knee jerk reactions that the public demands.
