Yesterday was National DRINK BEER Day (anyone, anywhere in the world can do it, any day or night)! I didn't celebrate (other than usual). I held off for TODAY!

Today is International COFFEE Day. Happy sipping everyone- ahhh

In anticipation for tomorrow... Wednesday, September 30th, is:

Blasphemy Day (how might you celebrate?)

National LOVE People Day (ummm..., people?)

National Mulled Cider Day (is that when you get your mullet caught in the cider press and mull over how to get it out?)

Recovery Day

Yay

As I have started wearing my poppy for remembrance of the dead marked on November 11 as Remembrance Day in the UK and the British Commonwealth, I am reminded that during this time in 1916 the awful Somme offensive was coming to an end in WW1. Starting in July of that year it left 460,000 casualties, 125,000 dead, more than 20,000 dead on the first day alone, before its end in mid November.

I am wondering, too, how the day will be marked in our Covid-`19 world. Hopefully we will still remember them

If that is not enough today is also the commemoration of the 1605 Catholic plot to blow up the British parliament. The most infamous leader was Guy Fawkes who was spared being hung drawn and quartered after falling from the scaffold and breaking his neck. Annually on this day his effigy (usually some of dad's old clothes stuffed with straw and newspapers) is burned on bonfires and his failure celebrated with fireworks. As a kid growing up Guy Fawkes Day was a highlight of the year.

Britain has never been a country to miss a chance of a tradition so consequently every year to this day armed soldiers search the basement of parliament just in case plotters, Catholic or otherwise, get the idea into their heads to do the same.

Gosh darn those mackeral-snappers! It's their own fault for not turning a blind eye to Henry's simple needs!

They've learned, since then, to be accepting of celebrity annulments.
