Had a surprisingly fun get together with friends from my childhood last night. All TBMs 'cept moi. The only truly mo part of the evening concerned sharing our kids' ages and schtuff about them. I found it interesting and kind of disturbing that everyone, excluding myself and another friend, talked at length about one of their children who was their "trial." I thought about it afterward and realized that these women truly believed that God had given them this one child in their family to test their faith. Blew me away afterward but fortunately, the stuff-about-kid sharing time didn't last very long.

These... are... my... close... friends... from... childhood. Whoa.

When you have to raise your kids to fit a detailed pre-determined mold then there can easily be "trial children."

There are no "trial children" without "trial parents."
