Old enough here to have watched the first movies as a young man. Connery was James Bond. All through the decades he was still James Bond, no matter the pretenders they hired.
Until Daniel Craig - Connery is still the original James Bond but finally we have an actor who fills the role as none but Connery did.
Wonder if Mormon,Inc will auction off Temple Sessions to see who will pay the most to Baptize Connery for the dead? They could raise a ton of money doing that.
I'd like to name check a selection of his non-Bond movies: * The Hill * The Hunt for Red October * The Rock * The Molly Maguires * Robin and Marian * Outland * Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade * Time Bandits * The Man Who Would Be King * Highlander * Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (as Richard the Lionheart) * The Name of the Rose * Rising Sun * Entrapment * Dragonheart * The Untouchables * Marnie (dir. Hitchcock)
Robin and Marion and The Man Who Would Be King ate far and away my favorites. Connery was a big star, enjoyable in many roles it I would not personally call him a "grezt" actor.
He was 90 yrs old. So there's that. Also, his wife just disclosed that he had been suffering from dementia for a short time. "He got his wish", she said. "He just slipped away" (in his sleep) as he had hoped for. As do we all I'm sure.
