Been a decade and more ago when we were "in" and living in Utah. Our area was loaded with wards, each with a Scout troop. Many of them had a Flag project going as a fund raiser.

The scouts with leaders came by, in front of the house drilled a hole in the lawn near the curb, put in a PVC piece of pipe so an American Flag on a pole could be inserted easily.

Every USA Holiday the scouts would come by and put USA Flag on a pole into the prepared hole early in the morning. Then right about sunset they would come back and remove the flags.

L-d$,inc and God have now parted with Boy Scouts of America - so what happens to the Flag projects? Did it just die?

Pretty much.

BSA is pretty much dead as well.

It is being sued into oblivion.

It will probably live on to locally fund the replacement program.

Six years ago almost every house on the street had a flag place in their yard.

This year I saw maybe three or four.

I thought I heard thru the grapevine a few years ago that LDS scout troops were told not to do this as a fund raiser anymore. Some scouts fell out of the back of a truck driving around putting out or picking up the flags. Church didn't want to be held liable.

Maybe this was just in my area. Anyone?
I know there used to be flags all thru the neighborhood but not the last 5yrs or so.
Last time they put them up, they left them and homeowner could take the flag inside and put it back out the next holiday if they wanted.

Like a lot of ideas, there's nothing basically wrong with this (if OK by the resident, what about JWs?) but the execution is a minefield.

It was a fund raising effort. You paid a 'donation' fee and the flags were up on holidays for that year. Next year you paid again. Was a successful one in many areas.

Without scouting it seems to have fallen apart - a lot like L-d$,inc in so many ways.
