I had the Church zoom meeting on for Sunday School and listened to it as I was doing other things. The teacher seemed to present a power point put out of by the Church for the lesson.
I learned that JS was suppose to take Alvin to get the plates but he had died. The angel did not like that. JS did not bring Alvin so that was why JS had to wait an additional three years. Has anyone heard that before.
I thought that JS said the angel visited him times that one night. Then the next day he was out in field and the angel visited him again. Then JS told his dad. His dad told him to go the hill and he went. Very strange. The teacher seemed to think there was no problem with this. NO problem. Alvin was dead so how did the angel not know? And because he did not bring Alvin why did he have to wait another three years? No one questioned what was said and I noted 36 people listening.
What the heck is the Church doing these days.

I'm tempted to say a chipmunk, but in reality JS' brother. He was very upset when he died and Alvin is featured in some of his revelations about the afterlife.

Lucy Mack Smith was grooming Alvin to be the prophet. After his death there was a change of plan.

I'd be interested to know if they teach that Emma was with Joseph when he got the plates after stealing a horse and carriage.

I wanna find the truth whether / not Joey was sealed to someone else before he was sealed to Emma (Slap In The Face department)

Was Alvin supposed to go with Joe to fetch the plates? Did Emma go?
All the real evidence is clear that there were no plates and Joe made the whole thing up, so does it really matter?

Joseph's mother was very clear that the night before Joseph claimed to get the plates (which he conveniently claimed to have reburied in a different location, both Joseph and Emma, without permission,took off in the wagon of a family friend. Mother Smith goes into great detail about misdirecting and stalling the friend until Joseph and Emma came back the next morning.

I believe they went somewhere, just no idea where.

I believe there were also lots of occult elements to the adventure, like going at midnight and drawing a circle in the dirt etc.

On a different note, the version of Lucy Mack Smith's book that we have was the one revised at BY's orders. He still didn't like it, but a lot of her account was spun.

You-all appear to be debating over something that never happened. IMO, it is all fiction.

We're all just playing. Except maybe the original poster. Zoom church sounds worse than real church---no---real church is worse I'm sure.

Yes, it is all fiction. But for those trying to understand the history of how the mormon church came to be, it is a very relevant question.

I'm not sure where I read it, but one author claimed Ma and Pa Smith had been grooming Alvin to star in the prophet grift, but when he died the assignment went to Joseph Jr.

So maybe the "Where's Alvin" story was invented to satisfy the marks who were already being set up in the scam.
