Mormon archeologists are still looking for Nephite chariots and the horses that would have pulled them -- and they always will be...

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56222992

Archaeologists in Italy have unveiled a ceremonial chariot they discovered near the ancient Roman city of Pompeii.

The four-wheeled carriage was found near a stable where three horses were uncovered back in 2018.

Experts believe it was likely used in festivities and parades, with the find described as "exceptional" and "in an excellent state of preservation".

Pompeii, engulfed by a volcanic eruption from Mount Vesuvius in AD79, is an archaeological treasure trove.

The volcanic eruption buried the city in a thick layer of ash, preserving many of its residents and buildings.

Probably recycled them all to make steel chalices to go wassailing on the open seas!

Wheee!

No Nephites, no Lamanites, no Mulekites, no Jaredites, but the Book of Mormon is full of coprolites.

I was there 3 or 4 years ago and it was amazing to walk along streets that still show the wheel ruts of cart traffic so long. For most of the finer discoveries you will need to visit the museum in Naples

Saucie and I attended the "The Ruins of Pompeii & Roast-a-wiener-on-the-human-briquets Tour" thingie when it was at the California Science Center, down by USC.

I took a bunch of photographs which due to popular demand I will post up on PictureTrail(dot)com first thing tomorrow!

Besides the grotesque human briquets, the other thing I remember is the X-rated room, sponsored by Pronehub, where X-rated slices of life in Pompeii were displayed. They actually had a guard at the entrance to keep out minors and mormons, as well as a nurse at the exit, with cold towels... I found it cheap, lurid, disgusting, perverted, debased and a whole bunch of other disdainful adjectives, plus one adverb and two gerunds...

So I only through three times.

There is a museum in Cuzco, Peru that includes among other things all sorts of sexual statuary. When we went through, there was an older woman in our group who said, "Yep, it's all there. Every single thing."

I was surprised by her. . . versatility. Also by all the things the Lamanites used to get up to.

I visited Pompeii as a teen, probably 15 or 16. I was a little embarrassed by some of the depictions (I was there with my dad).

I recall one incredulous woman asking if the massive size of certain portion of a statue was accurate, and the macho tour guide responding, “of course, madam, we are Italian.”

Their society was like ours, but also very different.

Priapus was just another good luck fertility god and was depicted as such.

Quite a contrast with the earlier peoples of southern Europe and the Near East, with their ubiquitous statuettes of the Mother Goddess. But in both cases the importance of gender and sexuality was constant.
