hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, because it is the easiest to form from subatomic particles.

Star formation only requires that gravity always be true, or real.

Other elements exist because of fusion inside of big ass stars that tend to explode within several hundred million years and spill their chemically-rich guts across the local sector.

Carbon is the best bang for your buck when it comes to a simple element (meaning it is common enough) with the most reactivity with other elements (meaning most complex molecules will be "organic," or made of carbon).

The "ingredients for life" are not that rare, and it's not a mystery where they came from either. Life might be as common as the fungi here on earth: it gets started wherever conditions are right.

The earth's surface wasn't cool and hard for one or two hundred million years with liquid water on its surface before the first life appeared. Life got started almost immediately.

What's amazing about these facts is that fundamentalists can turn their noses up at them with such flaunted conviction when the truth is staring them right in their faces.

All true. Yes, the fundamentalists have an amazing capacity for self delusion. I know I did when I was Mormon.

but in reality, we all have a huge blind spot.
There's only so much we can really handle of reality, before it fries us like a bug under a magnifying glass.
We can't handle ultraviolet light very well, or infrared.
The rainbow in between is all we want to see.

No, it’s reality.
The reality is that life has not only existed on Earth for the past 3.5billion years, almost from the beginning of the age of the Earth, it has evolved, and adapted in response to those calamities and disasters. And the life that had survived, like the tardigrade, has grown stronger. And here we are billions of years later, still here, despite all the incredible odds against it.
Bottom line is, no matter how bad life might seem to any one individual, life goes on and the universe strikes a balance, with or without us.

True, life could have started here, but all the ingredients could have come from off earth. NASA’s Stardust mission collected amino acids, necessary for proteins in RNA/DNA formation, from the tail of a comet.

I’d think I would have remembered that.
But I only went through it once. It’s like the black box in Mecca for Mormons, but the Mormons dressed theirs up wedding cake style and Muslims dress their mosques up onion style.
