The church is now putting temples in the most remote areas of the world. But.... I highly doubt they'd ever ever ever build one in the city of Moroni.....on the Island of Cumorah.

Yes this is a real place located off the east coast of Africa Nd once a layover for that infamous burier of treasure Capitan Kidd.

Should Russ Nelson hope & pray for one there?

Should he hold his breath until one is announced for that location?

It's Comoros.

Supposedly, in Smith's time it was Cumorah, not Comoros yet. I mean, plenty of people have said that, but I don't actually know.

"Africa" from Brookes, R., The General Gazetteer; or Compendious Geographical Dictionary. Eighth Edition. Dublin, 1808:

https://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/africa_1808.jpg

Spelling: "Camora".

"Carte Générale De L'Afrique" by Eustache Hérisson, 1829:

https://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/africa_se_1829.jpg

Spelling (French): "I. Comore". "I."="Île"=island.

BTW, the French cartographer's name is great. The English would be "Eustace Hedgehog".

Great maps. I hadn't seen the spelling documented like that before and hence thought JS had fudged the names a bit like he did with some of the names north of where he lived in NY.

It's good to learn this.

IIRC, the first edition of the Book of Mormon spelled it with an o : Comorah

Russia. Turkey. No temples happening there. Zero chance.

Russia has already been announced. President Putin is a Freemason. He'll get it.

I think they announce lots of places that just don't seem to be actually built.

No temples in Vermont-surely they would want to honor the memory of Brother Joseph and Brother Brigham in their home state?

there are only about 4,600 Mormons by their statistics in Vermont.

That isn't exactly the most compelling number, particularly if it's exaggerated. There's only 12 congregations in Vermont - 7 wards, 5 branches. That doesn't sound anywhere near 4,600 members to me.

Before the pandemic, Montréal was the closest temple for the northern parts of the state including Middlebury, Barre, and Montpelier.

Now with Canada closed off, the closest temple would be Boston for that part of the state with Hartford being a reasonably close second. Given Boston traffic, it would be a wash most of the time.

P.S. While researching this, I just realized I may never have been to Palmyra after all.

There may never be a temple at Mountain Meadows Utah but then again the corporation is shameless so who knows?

That is actually the perfect place. How many of the dead if they could communicate with the living would tell people that they want The Mormons to desecrate their names?

After seeing the drawings of the Helena temple, perhaps the Dildo temple would be quite appropriate
