One day “courtship” before marriage, among the Mormons

I find it very odd that Mormonism teaches that you must be married before the “consummation”. It’s rather stupid to get married after a day or two, because if you are not married before having sexual relationships, something bad may happen?
It’s better to get married by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas than to have sexual relations? Stupid

I know some men who did this. My ex-wife married her 4th husband after he said he wouldn't have sex until marriage. Had another friend who dated for 2 1/2 years before getting married and having sex. At least according to him. I'm not sure I believe all the stories

In my not so humble opinion
two adult human beings can have sexual relations where--when-- and with whom they wish
SO LONG AS:::
In doing so they do not infringe on the rights of another human being....!!!!

they get married before love making to tell the world that they (the man) will take care of his offspring. That society won't have to pay-for/incarcerate the little darling.

Without marriage the rest of us suffer.

60's BYU had problems with "Wendover Wedding Weekends".

Kids would zip to Wendover, Nevada and get legally married. Then play around all they wanted with each other while still being BYU students, dorm room residents, etc. If caught - "We're Married" would come up.

After a few weeks or months they would go back to Nevada and file for divorce or annulment. Then do the wedding thing again.

Was a real thing and caused the school problems.
