I like to cook and just tried a new recipe I found online...banana peel bacon.

I downsized the recipe for one banana...

1 banana peel cut in 4 strips
1 T. soy sauce
1 t. maple syrup
1/8 t. garlic powder
1/8 t. paprika

mix the ingredients and soak the peels in it for about 10 - 15 minutes.
Fry them in oil on medium heat until toasty and brown, maybe with a bit of char on them too.

It doesn't taste like bacon but I was pleasantly surprised.....first you taste the sweetness of the banana, then it finishes with the salty/ savory taste from the marinade and a bit of char. I think it would good on a sandwich layer or maybe cut up in a salad. Would be OK with breakfast too.

Apparently banana peels can be nutritious, and are used in cuisines around the world. But pesticide residue can be a concern, in which case organic bananas might be the way to go.

Good point. I made sure to wash it first. The soy sauce made it a bit salty. I may play with the recipe. I think cinnamon would be good so maybe just leave out the soy and other stuff and soak them in maple syrup and cinnamon, keep it sweet....yeah, that's the ticket!

Interesting. Think it could be used to make a BPBLT (Banana Peel Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato)?

In the 60s it was rumored that if you scraped the inside of a banana peel, dried it and smoked it, it would get you high.

Worth a try.
