Hi everybody, have not posted on this bulletin board in years, but I thought I would just stop by and say hi. It never seemed to be that big of a deal for anybody else, but it use to always bug the crap out of me they would make you pay 3 bucks to rent a pair of temple clothes. After all the money you give to them, hard work and sacrifice, basically making yourself into us social drone and religious moron, they have to tag you for three more bucks to get into the temple? I just always thought that was kind of Fed up.

It bothered me more that the underwear I was told to wear day and night for the rest of my life could only be purchased through them.

There was a time when you could buy the underwear at Penney's.I remember going with my girlfriend when I was about 12 to buy underwear for her mom. I imagine ZCMI and other stores also carried it.

Until at least the late 1970s members could make their own garments. It didn't become a church monopoly till later.

I've also read/heard that one of the factors in the church taking over control from private retailers like Penney's (see supra) of garment production and sales was that Lamanites, even inactive or non-Mormon ones, used to buy and wear them. I don't know how such a thing becomes a cultural tradition but it did.

I told my husband I wouldn't go to the temple again if I had to rent them. I remember feeling like I was one of the poor or something. But then I got the clothes and I went a few more times and then I wasn't going back.
