I have no loyalty to the cult to die for. The question doesn't make sense the way it's worded if you're asking ex-mormons.

Would I have willing died to prove my loyalty when I was active? No F'ing way!

Does the cult provide cool Nike shoes?

I would only willingly die if the alternative was to be a faithful mormon.

...just kidding.

I would only willingly die if Charles Dickens were still alive and promised to make me a literary immortal.

...okay, kidding again!

In thinking it over, quite a number of people willingly die to get off this planet.  But the majority of humans chose whatever lives they have over being dead.

So statistically speaking, life seems to be preferable to death.  And if a cult could not survive without the sacrifice of my life, screw that cult; let it collapse.

Okay, okay...  If I and all my descendants were on three flying-in-tandem 747s, and there was a powerful bomb on board that had to be carried out of the tandem planes, I would seriously consider carrying it out myself, so that all my descendants could live... I'd be pissed, but I'd probably do it to save them... ungrateful bunch of ...

Three 747s?

I can't imagine what the child support payments add up to.

Not on the longest day I would ever live.
A person would have to be a total mind slave to the cult to even consider that.
Anyway who says tha I am loyal to the cult?

I'm loyal to some people but loyalty to an organization is kind of an alien concept to me.

...but your bishop and the SP thought you were faking it ... And they bad-mouthed you on your 'in remembrance' Faithbook page, and at the next stake conference?

Never did have any loyalty to the cult. Was never central to my life. Church was a Sunday only thing to me.

to the cult" and then I remembered. I married my gay "husband" because I needed to get those voyeurs out of my life. They were destroying me. I didn't have the answers and neither did he considering he was VERY MORMON. We had to figure it out ourselves and the only way to do that was to get those leaders out of our business.

I would NEVER die for the cult. I remember a movie they showed us when I was young about 2 guys I believe in Mexico who were shot by a firing squad because they wouldn't deny their testimonies. That movie stuck with me for a long time. I knew I couldn't agree to die for the church.

It seems that the leaders of the cult are trying to live as long as humanly possible. How many hundred billion dollar corporations have an active CEO that’s pushing 100?

Does the church "have an active CEO?"

Maybe not so active, but they roll out the Nelson every General Conference like it’s Weekend at Bernie’s.

Yes, a CEO of Bernie's. I think that's the right idea.

Meanwhile the Titanic moves ever further into the frigid northern waters. . .

“Jack, wake up.”

Maybe I shouldn’t find the thought of a frozen Russell clinging to flotsam so comforting.

Of course I wouldn't. But there was a time in my life when I would have. And that thought is incredibly sobering to me.

I've heard it said that men in combat make high-risk decisions not for fame or country but because of loyalty to their comrades.

So the idea of "dying for an organization" may not be so valid after all.
