Even when I was TBM, the phrase "Christlike" made my skin crawl. It always felt to me like the most condescending, sanctimonious put-down imaginable.
"I strive (not "try", but "strive", for some reason) to be Christlike. Why are you such a useless slug?" That's how it always sounded to me.
What has set me off here is that I just read an article where an LDS mom had taught her daughter that wearing a mask was Christlike. Oh, spare me. I much prefer to think that wearing a mask is what distinguishes me from sociopaths. Still condescending, but at least the sanctimony is not there. Progress. :)
Using Christ’s middle initial is not Christlike, which is ironic, since he is the only General Authority that doesn’t use his middle initial, though everyone knows it (H).
" Oh, spare me. I much prefer to think that wearing a mask is what distinguishes me from sociopaths."
Laughed so hard. I'll love you forever for that line, BoJ.
I find the use of the word Christlike seems to align well with the speaker's self perception. Otherwise, what? Are they striving to heal the blind and lame and raise a few people from the dead?
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get my Christlike on and clear out a temple.
