I'm only 3 years behind you.

You must have good genes, habits and luck. 85 rounds around the sun and still kicking is pretty sweet.

I doubt I'll make it to 80 with my family history.

I hope you see many more Labor Days.

You never know. With my family history I should have toddled off 12 years ago.

Hahaha. Every year in the mirror I see I have toddled a little further.

Getting old is not for sissies. It's not exactly pleasant watching your body basically disintegrate before your eyes - that is if you can see ok. ;-)

    How old do you feel?

    My mom used to demand, "Who the hell is that old lady in my mirror?"

    So I avoid mirrors, which men can do with an electric razor and clip-on ties...

Here's a poem I wrote:

And if we're having a contest, I've got three more Labor Days behind me than DesertRat. I'm 87, to turn 88 later this month.

We're all doing well to have survived this far.

For me, the horror is seeing my mother and grandmother in the mirror when it should be me. I swore I'd never look like them.

NO that comes in Jan.

A bad part about getting old is the tendency to make decisions on the basis of how much time you think you might have left. Is there any point buying that new car as we don't know how much longer we will be driving, or what's the point of updating the kitchen,bathroom whatever, at our age?

My wife and I had this conversation today and decided we would not submit to such thinking. We decided we would make those decisions based on what makes us happy today. We have determined that the closer horizon should not determine the nature of our life in the now.

So a friend is going to turn 99 this week. His wife died 3 years ago and he was lonely so he went to online dating sites. He now has a 55 year-old girlfriend.

He's not a Mormon. He's type B though and keeps fit and only drinks one glass of wine a day. He says he's going to live to be 163. His goal. I say, if that's his goal, my goal is to live to be 128.

And yes, I just bought a brand new car.

Yesterday's newspaper had a horrible agist article on how to get your aging parents to "right size," ie get ready to sell their home and move to a smaller place. How to get them to throw stuff out. I'm so offended by it. if we move to a smaller space, where will we keep all of our computers, printers, and other electronic gadgets?

It was a great activity to throw a party with the ym/yw making a poster and doing an interview about their life achievements.

Then in the midst of correlation, the bishop decided that he no longer had room in his budget. He was such a dick.
