I really enjoyed conference for the most part. I love the teachings of the church, but this statement did not set well with me for every session except the Sunday Afternoon session. I feel this statement was very inappropriate and political. It did not set the proper tone for General Conference:

"We note the reduced number of choir members in order to provide a measue of social distancing. Safe medical practices were also follow at rehursals. All participating have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and were recently tested to ensure that they are not infected with the virus. "

That statement was very inappropriate and not needed. Does anyone else feel this way?

Just to be sure you know that readers here are majority ex-Mormons. They would disagree with the sentiment of loving the church. FYI.

This seems in accordance with public health guidelines or even mandates. It would reassure audience members that every effort is being taken to protect both them and the choir from potentially being infected with a deadly virus. (It is more easily spread in groups and singing is a good way to spew it around in a crowd).

Why inappropriate? Why not needed? In what way is it "political"? I'm truly interested to know.

Following proper medical and public health advice shouldn't be political at all. I applaud the church for doing the right thing here. I suppose this is a good time for the church to be headed by a medical doctor.

I know. Credit given where due. I especially wince that some EV churches and leaders are rabidly anti, leading their followers down the road perhaps right to the cemetery, not to mention all the others they may infect on their way.

Faith-promoting even. :/

I don't understand. They get one thing right out of the whole thing and that is the thing you don't like?

Gee, they allowed every speaker and the members of the choir to perform without the hindrance of a mask. That was generous.

Most folks working with people don't have such luxury. Many have to do the job while wearing a facemask.

Speakers at podiums routinely go maskless because they are usually considerably more than six feet from the audience. I didn’t see the choir seating arrangements, but I assume they were spread out, and also presumably all vaccinated.

I’d like to see the microphone run through an autoclave after a number of those speakers, but pointing out the safety protocol demonstrated by the choir was excellent.

You can still can catch and spread COVID after getting any of the available shots. What they seem to do is keep the symptoms from being so severe. They don’t make you immune from COVID.

Incorrect. The vaccines reduce infection rates massively and also prevent the rare breakthrough infections from resulting in severe illness.

Conference is a time for revelation and it was not given as such.

I'll tell you what, the camera had the best "soothing" ultra slow panning in steady video feeds I've ever witnessed!

I think you're mostly right though, nobody was watching the way they blew it over and over..

Why would a comment on public health measures be political? It was probably offered because people might be curious as to why there were fewer members of the choir in attendance.

I remember in the early days of the pandemic that a choir practice functioned as a superspreader event.

I think there are many lurkers and a few vocal folks who browse here that would 100 percent agree with you.

I don't but I get that there is a large and growing population of disaffected Mormons who like the church but not Nelson heading it. For your sake I hope the next guy is more to your liking and you don't have to feel like you need to find a community of the disenchanted. Luckily Nelson is really old.

It's less a statement about Covid-19 and more a statement about preventing the spread of it.

How is that inappropriate?

Apparently more so than showing people in their choirs rubbing elbows and singing in masks.

But there is always playing a recording. I wonder why they didn't do that?
