They could name it after Ernest Wilkinson, the person (I understand) who’s more or less responsible for promoting the horrible culture that pervades BYU.
Although in a greater sense Mormonism as it is with the much more enforced rules etc became that way everywhere along with the school that bears one it’s worst prophets name.
The statue should stay. He represents them perfectly as their mascot.
BUT.
The statue in Salt Lake of BY with the Native American sitting at the side? Disgusts me. He treated the Indians like they had no value whatsoever. The glass laden flour. The taking of their lands after the Timpanogos being promised them. The blaming of the Native Americans for MMM. And on and on.
Put the Indian Brave in his place and topple him like Sadam Hussien's statue. Enough already.
Honestly surprised they didn't already rename/rebrand it, along with getting rid of "Mormon" for everything including the MoTab Choir, etc.
They could rename it Wasatch Mountain U, Wasatch Range U, or Wasatch Front U, Provo Canyon U, Mt Timpanogas U, Timpanogas U, any of those. Certainly they have the means to pay a branding service to do it.
But they should then also secularize the school a bit, and offer a copy of an updated diploma with the revised name to all past grads who do not want to be affiliated with the BYU name.
1) Geographical locator, but the comms would need to work on the re-branding/marketing.
2) Maybe an alliance with the healthcare nfp, with some cross-over links to BYU alumni. The healthcare provider currently offers training/CPD and fellowships.
Can't happen, for the same reason that every "prophet," no matter how sad an example of a human, has to held up as heroic, clean and called by God to lead "his people." This is why the church retains even the worst of its humans as heroes. I mean, Joseph Smith may actually be at the top of Worst Human Ever. But, no,... I think it's Young, who was guilty many times over of murder.
But anyway, I think the initials BY are going to be around for a long time. If anything, the church will produce another fabricated object story about a heroic Brigham Young who was gentle and kind to children and widows, and willingly gave of his fortunes to the destitute.
Name it after Ann Eliza Young, writer of Wife no. 19, one of the most damning, interesting books on Young's time at the helm I've ever read. She's a freaking hero!!
