I was driving home yesterday and stuck smack dab in the lawn of the mormon church in my neighborhood (Salt Lake County) was a professionally made sign "advertising" Easter services with two different times.

So, I wondered if this was an isolated thing or more widespread. I doubt that random people who see this are going to dress up in their Sunday best and head on over there come Easter Sunday.

I've never seen anything like this.

Most unusual.

Years ago when staying in a motel, I would peruse the yellow and white pages and look at the religious services pages. Every church and congregation had a specific time listed. Some had very elaborate graphics and pictures.

And the most basic, free of charge one listed LDS worship services. Call (names of wards) to locate times and locations.

Visitors welcomed if you bring your checkbook :D

I suspect that's the underhanded game they're playing. I've never seen it either, but it feels like the kind of thing they'd do to look more generically Christian.

Davis county is full of advertisements for church services and not just on church property.

On a round about near several schools is a sign advertising stake conference in Kaysville.

Every month the entrances to subdivisions are littered with monthly Relief Society homemaking meeting notices.

Other stuff pops up from time to time including flyers taped on everyone's door for "block parties".

Random people attending a Mormon Easter service might be deeply disappointed. They would be expecting a church decked out with flowers, a professionally composed and delivered sermon centered on Jesus's resurrection, and activities such as an Easter egg hunt for the kids.

- Utah is the last place the church needs to advertise. Pretty sure everyone there has already heard of mormons.

- If a non-mormon happens to attend a service at the "wrong" (unassigned) ward or wearing the "wrong" clothing, will they be scolded?

Easter Sunday church service in the Mormon church actually seems very mainstream Christian -- at least it did when I was an active Mormon. I can see why they will advertise and welcome outsiders for that particular service. It's a chance for Mormons to say, "look everyone, we're Christian!" I doubt a sign will appear advertising Sunday services for a fast sunday, unless they want to frighten people away.

Interesting. The church seems to be trying to make itself look more mainstream Christian lately. I still get ward and stake emails and my stake has an assignment for members to invite someone who is inactive or non-member to Easter Services this year. This is Utah County, so I'm not sure where everyone is supposed to find someone to invite. Someone invited me, but I'm surprised that I only got one invitation. I'm one of two inactive people in the ward boundaries and there's only one non-member in my neighborhood that I know of.

I also received a flyer on my door about Holy Week. Since when does the LDS church recognize Holy Week? The last Easter I remember attending at an LDS church several years ago it was just talks as usual about scripture study, tithing etc. and a combined fifth Sunday lesson on porn addiction and the dangers of the internet. That's the Mormon "Easter Service" that I'm familiar with.

Where there is no mentioning of a Jesus dying on a cross. Just all this pain in a garden that most other churches ignore.

Where a verbal reminder is given over the pulpit that Sacrament participation is only for members in good standing. So bring your own Wonder Bread and water cistern.

Where Jesus day gets compared to the only other person worthy of love and adoration- Joseph Smith. Sometimes, speakers stand and sob- He loved us, boo hoo hoo.

Great reminder at the end of the day, not about the gift of life eternal, but about honoring Jesus as a full tithing donor.

I was going to mention that my ward would have pretty Easter Lily flowers donated from a member's garden until another ward member bitched about hay fever and other allergies. So then there were ZERO flowers. The church's paid Church Facilities Manager was in my ward. He would not allow fake/plastic flower arrangements to placed in the chapel.

Easter Lily’s are the reason this lapsed Lutheran refuses to go to church on Easter. Allergy person is correct, they are awful. I would come home from church every Easter with a rampaging sinus headache. Even when we would go at 6:30am. The walk home in the fresh air was not enough to feel better.

I did a quick search in my paper for "Easter".

First ad returned: "Jesus Christ Rose Again - Feel the Joy of Easter - Christ Can Make You Whole https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/

That's pretty typical, ads, notices, billboards, etc.

"The church seems to be trying to make itself look more mainstream Christian lately"

Exactly. "Easter Jesus Christian amirite".
