Nice little article that sums up a lot of people's experiences. They lady went through more than most but still like many has found happiness after she left the church.
Was wondering if anyone has read her book, Loose Cannons?

That was great, Mankosuki, thanks. Personally, I wondered whether she wasn't a poster on this board...

Quite possibly could be. After I posted I checked Amazon for her book. Getting rave reviews there.

Nice article. Thanks for posting it. I am amazed that there is so much negativity regarding Mormonism currently. The cascade effect has to be accelerating. Mormons are not so afraid of leaving the cult as in the past. The announcements of stake closures and wards consolidating are evidence of decline.

There have been excellent articles about the growth of religious fundamentalist churches in Africa. Apparently many of these converts jump from church to church. The Mormon church claim of rapid growth there is wildly overstated. That is the only area of significant increase in membership and it appears to be transitory.

I am somewhat puzzled by the African growth. I have heard the stories of a lot of church jumping, but OTOH some of those countries have multiple dozens of stakes. It takes a fairly significant critical mass of dedicated members to keep a stake functioning.

These seem like contradictory signals. I’m not sure what is really happening.

It's kind of funny about Africa. You
There isn't that much info about it.
At least from what I've seen.

I have heard that in Africa, being called to be a missionary is the best job these young men will ever have, in terms of the monthly stipend they receive.

I read a blog post by an American missionary serving in Africa about native missionaries having 'camp-followers', with all of them living off that stipend.

It's easy to assume that when the money stops, so does the loyalty.
