Threatening rapist with death doesn't do any good. The problem is that it's after the fact and does nothing to address what the 10 year old girl is facing.

Can we please stop entertaining the notion that abortion is just an easy out birth control for sluts. Can we please stop entertaining the notion that we can stop rapists. If we could, we would have done so millennia ago. Can we please stop entertaining the notion that nothing can go wrong during a pregnancy, or that it's no big deal to have a child, or that men should decide what's best for women.

So this was reported in a timely manner to CPS, and then to the police, but Ohio's AG Dave Yost had no knowledge of it? How convenient for him. Thankfully, medical personnel were able to recover semen from the child, so hopefully a positive ID can be made.

However long they put the rapist in prison will not be long enough.

And that poor child should have been given a quick abortion in her home state. Shame on Ohio. And shame on Judge Cynthia Ebner for not ordering the rapist to be held without bond. He is a danger to the community.

I heard that now Indiana is looking into the doctor. I can't confirm it. I hope that isn't true. Jesus, the doctor will probably be getting more crap than the rapist.

I think it is wrong to go after health care professionals who know a heck of a lot more about appropriate care than the red legislatures that have a choke hold on state regulations. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of health care workers leave these barbaric states. Good luck finding doctors who want to move there.

Attorney General Todd Rokita appeared on Fox News to address reports the girl was forced to cross state lines from Ohio — where abortion is now illegal after about after six weeks of pregnancy — to Indiana. The story become national news after the Indianapolis Star Tribune first reported details of the case from Dr. Caitlin Bernard, who said the girl’s parents discovered she was six weeks pregnant and therefore ineligible for an abortion despite being sexually assaulted.

It sounds like it is just so much huffing and puffing for their base in the far right. If abortion was still legal in Indiana (which from what I've read, appears to be the case for now,) then nothing can be done about it. But the harassment of medical personnel is ridiculous.

The attorney general of Indiana is accusing the abortion provider in Indianapolis of not reporting the rape in that state. I don't know if it was reported there or if it needs to be since the crime happened in Ohio. But this is clearly a case of political grandstanding since abortion is legal up to 21 weeks in Indiana.

I worked in a children's hospital and witnessed the worst things adults do to children, including the death of a little girl who had been brutally raped by her father. Maybe it's why I had no trouble deciding that I was pro-choice, even after growing up Catholic and Mormon.

Yeah, I bet that you saw a lot. I had a frank talk with a school social worker once about one of my students who was living with relatives. What she told me about how his parents had treated him made my hair stand on end. And that's when I realized that she knew much more than she had told me, not only about this child, but about other children as well.

I wondered about that aspect, Susan. It seems like they're installing internal borders inside your country. Living in the EU - and despite what our extreme right say - we've all seen the benefits of Schengen, which basically did away with internal borders. The freedom it brings (particularly for younger people ;-) is one of the many major benefits I think we get from our Union.

But in the "land of the free", the GOP "freedom party" is seeking to remove the right to control your own body and your right to travel within your own country... Sounds pretty Stalinist to me ;-)

I clearly remember a news story after the Sandy Hook shooting where the reporter asked a woman what she thought about the shooting, and she replied "we gotta get right with god." When the reporter asked her what she meant by that, she listed gay marriage, interracial marriage, no prayer in school, abortion, etc., and not a crazy mom buying guns for her mentally deranged kid.

So, they are forcing everyone to live their way -- because for them there is no other way.

ETA: It looks like case law fully supports the right of people to travel freely among states, and for states to have their own sovereign laws. However with the current nutty SCOTUS, who knows how they would rule. The justices certainly have no respect for precedent.
