Are mormons still clinging to the notion that the earth is only 6000 years old? If so, the pictures from the Webb Telescope surely has blown that up.

Maybe that old teaching has gone down the memory hole.

Actually it never was doctrine. Although some honchos bought into it.

It was most certainly doctrine that there was no death prior to 6,000 years ago. D&C.

The “no death before the fall” doctrine comes from the BoM (2 Nephi 2:22) and the PoGP (Moses 6:48).

Check out D&C 77:5-7 and tell me that it isn’t doctrine.

Most members don't care about no stinkin' telescope.

Their church has a seer stone and that's more powerful than any technology on Earth.

Science deals in research seeking facts, does that sound like ChurchCo to anyone?

No problems. Even die hard 13 thousand year old earth (7000 to create and 6000 since creation) believers site the book of Moses that states there are worlds without end and the whole of creation can certainly be more than 13,000 years.

Others have stated that the earth was made in seven phases and each phase could be millions of years or more. How long was Adam in the garden before Eve and how long were they both there?
Then the whole here is man on the earth and here is the death of man and lets start the 6,000 years of history.

No one I know has trouble with an older universe. If anything a few are mad that we try and put a begining on the universe as they consider it without begining or end.

I’ve never heard a Mormon opine on Astrophysics but this Astrophysicist says these JWST images is the most compelling evidence that ‘a God that exists beyond Space/Time must have created the universe’ so, non-existent, unless he’s talking about the Singularity, which created this 4D super symmetrical LambdaCDM cosmic reality where everything is relative and energy slowed down by the speed of light, squared, matters.

The Webb telescope simply is the latest, greatest 'look' at what can be seen looking up at the night sky; we're seeing with greater clarity.

But the Webb telescope has the same failing that Galileo's telescope had, it has no voice-box explaining what the viewer is seeing.

This frees men to conjecture . . .

Remember, it is "Worlds without end" and the faithful believe all discoveries are in accord with The Prophets and Scripture.

We don't know everything - God does.

That is more than enough for many.

So why worry? Why study? Make Babies and pay tithing.
