Does the Mormon church officially oppose confessions to bishops of illegal conduct such as sex abuse being reported to secular authorities in the same way the Catholic church regards confessions as sacred and not to be divulged?

I think the Mormon church goes by the reporting requirements of states -- if a state does not require clergy to report, then the church won't require it either.

Catholic priests will not break the confidentiality of the confessional, even if they are jailed for nondisclosure.

Mormon bishops have the benefits of being 'inspired' by both Holy McGhost and the Hot Line, so that they (and we) know they're always doing the right thing.

If you're of the opinion that a bishop did something wrong, Satan has you in his power.

Well, after all..., Satan IS The God of This World. We learn that in the Temple and even wear his Apron into the Celestial Kingdom.

So - who is it Mormons really believe in and serve?

I'm leaning towards answering, 'the highest bidder.'

The first rule of churchco is to protect the good name and image of churchco.

The second rule is to follow the still small voice of the inspired person on the hotline.

The final rule..... It's all about the optics.

A second input....

I once came to a stake president with hard proof of a bishop skimming money from the building fund.

I had copies of receipts, bank statements and written testimony.

The church response.....

No one in that position would steal from the church.
I needed to write a letter of apology or I would never get a temple recommend as long as he was president (I refused to write the letter)

Lastly he took all the evidence and nothing happened.

If you are talking about going to the police about illegal activity, the bishop does the minimum required by local law.

If you are talking about within the ward, he may tell his wife, or councilors, or bring it up at ward council, or PEC, or whatever it is called now, and all bets on confidentiality are off.

I DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT BECAUSE
May years ago I quit telling anybody, especially preachers and bishops anything that I wanted kept secret.
The only way three people can keep a secret is if two of them are dead
Tell a preacher tell a bishop telegraph

I think I saw this in a Penthouse Forum 'confession'.  I'm sure, that like the church, it was all true.
