She shot him through a glass door and there was no forced entry attempt. She will be charged with murder. You only shoot someone if your life is in danger. If they are outside not trying to break in and you shoot them, you are in big trouble.

Nevermo here, so I may well be (ignorantly, because I am a nevermo) just not understanding what is being related in this post.

What is the point of this story--and, regardless of the US state involved, why is this a newsworthy story?

I used to work at Parker Center (headquarters of the Los Angeles [city] Police Department), and this same, or similar, thing happens virtually every single weekend throughout So Cal.

What makes this a Utah, or a Mormon, situation?

I am borderline tempted to invoke my namesake, Bowerick Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged, but this would be unkind, so I will refrain.

This is not all that newsworthy, except for two things. The main one is that the victim is male. That is quite rare. Domestic violence murders are pretty frequent in Utah, and I don't recall a previous one where the victim was male, though that must have happened.

Second, the victim is Black. Black murders are not all that uncommon here. There was just a murder right out on W Temple in front of the Salt Palace a week and a half ago. Some out of town grifter was at a sneaker convention bilking people with a game of three card monty. One of his victims took offense, and shot and robbed him right in front of the entrance. Of course there was surveillance video of the lobby where the game was going on, and of the entrance. Three people were arrested a few days ago.

However, Black domestic violence murder, in Utah that is rare. Two (three?) U of U coeds were killed by Black men in the last few years, but a Black man getting getting killed, none that I can recall.

Lastly, he was professional bull rider, from out of town, though he apparently knew the woman who shot him. That got mentioned in all versions of the story. I suspect that is an exotic enough profession, that it is going to be an eyeball attractant.

The woman was booked on murder charges. I've met the county prosecutor, who seems like a very stand-up guy, but I wonder if the charge would have been slower in coming, or might have initially been manslaughter, if she had been white and delightsome. Just a thought.

I suspect she will plea-bargain down to manslaughter, since it was a drunken argument that led to the shooting.

I think it’s nice when men walk around holding them, but they should only be worn when a man is in the saddle … if you get my drift.
