The Book of Mormon says nothing about education. It says nothing about most subjects we learn in school. It says nothing about mathematics, nothing about the fine arts, nothing about music, drama, humanities, painting, journalism, etc. It says nothing about great literature. It has nothing about religious studies, language studies, geology, forestry, woodworking, physical education, etc. It says nothing about any kind of extracurricular activity, whether it be sports, board games, the glee club, etc. It says nothing about science.

The only literature it mentions is what is recorded on the plates. The plates contain history and religious teachings, but that's about all.

It says that at times the people prospered, and were very happy. If they were doing so well, why didn't they build schools and universities? Why didn't they use education to enrich their lives?

Stop that! Next thing you know you'll have the apologists saying it was a religious book.

Besides, JS was better at war movies than rom-coms or an episode of NOVA.

The BoM does say something about their mathematics. They use decimal groupings, tens, hundreds, thousands. Indigenous cultures did not use decimal. In particular, the Maya used base 20, and I believe the Incas used base 2 in their quipu knot system.

The Hebrews were a decimal culture with a lunar calendar, so you would expect that to carry over to the Americas. I know of no native culture that used either.

The Roman calendar we inherited is a solar calendar, but it has months that are close to the same length as lunar months. The Mayan calendar has 18 twenty day months, so no obvious connection to a lunar calendar at all, nor to a 7 day week, a concept foundational to Hebrew Sabbath observance.

Have you ever tried to get people by the millions to read the single existing set of plates containing their history? Not as easy as it seems.

Luckily the Mormons would eventually come along and re-educate them. How wonderful. No?

The same observation could be made about the Bible, the Quoran, or any other religious book. In fact, many religious leaders, particularly of the white evangelical Christian variety, would prefer that their followers not be educated--fewer people to challenge leadership decisions and edicts!

I've read the Book of Mormon a couple of times. I always wondered where the Fullness of the Gospel is that the Book claims to have.

Where are all those precious Mormon doctrines? Temples? Eternal marriage? Baptism for the dead? The three degrees of glory? The new and everlasting covenant? And etc, etc, etc

No intellectuals, feminists, and gays either. The only real book for a meat packer. The only book to milk faith from ignorance.

Oh, gosh, Jesus was hanging around for three days teaching all about the Celestial Kingdom and tithing and missions and baptizing for the dead and polygamy and not showing porn shoulders and bishop's interviews, but don't you know:

"16 Behold, it came to pass on the morrow that the multitude gathered themselves together, and they both saw and heard these children; yea, even babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things; and the things which they did utter were forbidden that there should not any man write them.

17 And it came to pass that the disciples whom Jesus had chosen began from that time forth to baptize and to teach as many as did come unto them; and as many as were baptized in the name of Jesus were filled with the Holy Ghost.

18 And many of them saw and heard unspeakable things, which are not lawful to be written."

So....sorry....they're not even on the Sealed Portion* of the plates becuse they were never written down!

*Sealed Portion: a large part of the Book of Mormon that has yet to be opened, but contains kick-ass recipes for Curelom Stew and Cumom chili...

To be ‘fair’, in the pre-industrial society there wasn’t much current usefulness for education; the early scientists like Galileo, Copernicus & Da Vinci did great work for their time, but application wasn’t recognized or applied to development.

Please correct me as appropriate…

What about DIY shipbuilders like Nephi and the Brother of Jared? Their stuff worked great the first voyage. Almost like magic.

It's funny that the Book of Mormon had plenty of room for homoerotica. The world was mostly men. Illustrations showed them to be bodybuilders. They were shirtless, or they had deep cleavage. They were unschooled and tall, good at giving speeches. Exhorting and praising the Lord. They built temples and towns. They spent some time locked up. They battled with their neighbors and looked for slippery treasures. They broke a press and violated the first amendment. They were martyred.
