A meaningful free form poem just recently found in an older, Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon thought, Vol 36, Spring 2003.

DISROBED
by Sondra Sumsion Soderborg

The moment that I cannot comprehend
is when you took your garments off.

I wonder (though I don't quite want to know)
whether, when the moment came,
it was conscious or was incidental.

I wonder
did you drop them to the floor one day
and decide you would not put them on again
or did you wear them till you wore them out,
sorry there would be no more?

I wonder
when you shopped for their replacements
did you look for color and design
or did you stick with plain, white cotton?

I wonder
did you cut away the markings?
did you ever miss the way they sometimes brushed your skin?

Did you grieve or rage or celebrate?

I remember how it felt
to wash and fold my parents' underwear
the first time and the second.
But i got used to it.

And now I wonder (though I don't quite want to know)

Did you?

###

So now...what say you???

Did YOU grieve or rage or celebrate???

Enquiring minds wanna know...

Or so it seems to me...

I did, I did, though I did not know
I dropped my clothes to expose below

I did not grieve nor seem to care
The garment was simply, something to wear

But now it’s gone, it seems to me
Will be much, much, easier to pee

I had been out of the church for a while. One place my therapist sent me to read about garments and the temple was HERE. That was in August 2005. My, I've been TOO LONG! Gives me something to do some days to avoid work.

I had started talking long distance to my nonmember boyfriend and I needed to shed those garments before we met up. I had known him when I was 20 and I was 47. My daughter and niece couldn't understand why I still wore them. Had to find something that was comfortable and I finally did. I just put them a bag and them in the garbage. No burning anything.

I guess my son just burned the pages of a Boyd Packer book he found in the room that used to be his sister's. I thought she had moved everything out. He has burned a lot of two book of mormons over the years.

And not long after I threw mine out, my daughter went back to church.
