Today is World Quaker Day. There were meetings worldwide via Zoom. I happened to attend one in Winnipeg, Canada.
These people were so nice and welcoming.
If you don't know anything about Quakerism, basically there is a type called "Unprogrammed" In their meetings, everyone just sits in silence. You can silently pray, or think, or read, etc. If you feel absolutely moved, you can say some short statement you'd like to share. There are no preachers.
Only two people spoke in the 45 minutes. One said, "I can hear birds. It made me think about how you can find joy in the little things to help you bring joy to the bigger picture."
The other just said a short list about people in the world going through difficult things, like Ukraine, Florida, etc. And asked us all to remember them and help others in need.
After the 45 minutes, they asked if some had any personal news to share or anything people they knew might need help with. Afterwards, everyone introduced themselves. And then you could leave, but if you wanted, could stay and just have a nice chat. So we did. Mostly just talking about our lives. It was great!
I think I got more out of that one meeting than I ever did in mormon church or confrence. :)
