Not my favorite Dame I must say. I know many who liked Murder She Wrote but that was too saccharin for my taste. I like my crime drama to be a bit more gritty. Not a big fan of Midsummer Murder for that reason. Think her Dame (hood?) was as much for length of career rather than depth but she had a good run.
I understand what you are saying about being a bit saccharine. I must have more of a taste for that than you do. One thing that I appreciated about MSW was Angela's portrayal of a woman who was living a full life on her own. As a lifetime single, it's good to see role models (even if fictional) on my screen. I also liked that most of the show was set in Maine.
One of my favorite movies! I remember showing it to my son when he was in his early teens. His laughter triggered mine, and we still throw lines from it back and forth. He has shown it to his own daughters, and they loved it too!
I actually liked Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote. It was the first whodunit series since Perry Mason to go beyond one season. RIP Angela Lansbury!
Lansbury was also in "Gaslight", from which we get the term gaslighting.
I learned for one of the obit articles that she included older actors from days long gone by in episodes of Murder She Wrote, so that they could keep their Screen Actors Guild membership current, and qualify for SAG health insurance.
