Yes, this story is several years old, but I only heard of it today.

"Officers responded to the church and disarmed the woman with the gun... One person attending the funeral said the woman did not approve of something the speaker said about her husband."

My nephew worked security at the Idaho Falls temple open house. He checked purses to make sure there was nothing that shouldn’t be in the temple. He was amazed at how many firearms there were. He said the sisters pack a lot of heat.

The important questions is: are the guns allowed or not? ;)

If someone pulls a gun in the temple, can only police officers with Temple Recommends respond?

I can understand why women carry guns.

Only the governor or POTUS can issue pardons, eod; if I could I’d sure thoughtfully consider that, but no promises just yet…

(In the Wild West) Unholstering a weapon was considered a threat calling for gunplay…

Brandishing a weapon is a crime in many jurisdictions, the woman should be arrested & jailed, the weapon seized as evidence.

As ‘conservative’ as peace officers are thought to be, many perhaps most dislike the rampant civilian availability of weapons, especially pistols & AK types.

Gun & drug overdoses are decimating the youth cohort, when you also count youth suicides, our society is in deep, serious trouble.

ChurchCo and other property owners can post entrances with a ‘No Weapons Allowed’ notice, and violators can be banned and possibly prosecuted for criminal trespass; I wonder why ChurchCo doesn’t…

The church actually got special legislation passed that lets them ban guns WITHOUT having to put up any of those unattractive signs (here in Utah, anyway).

How would visitors be on notice ???

A visitor (especially from another state) would have no way to know.
The way the law is written, a church has to register with the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification and then give notice.

The notice can be done in four different ways:
-Direct communication (i.e. the bishop tells you)
-Reading something over the pulpit
-Putting up a sign

or...

-Putting a legal notice in ONE Salt Lake City newspaper ONCE per year

Guess which method the church prefers?

Not exactly true.

There are several online resources that are well researched, up to date and highly accurate that provide the necessary legal information required to keep a person who carries out of legal hot water. It is incumbent on the individual to know the laws of the state they are in regarding where they can or cannot carry their firearm.

The info is out there and not hard to find.

"It's not our fault you didn't know about our special gun laws. The information was out there the whole time."

"It's not our fault you didn't know about the different First Vision accounts. The information was out there the whole time."

At least the church is consistent, right?

I thought maybe she brought the gun to make sure he was dead.

Maybe she didn't want to take the chance of him sitting up saying, "Surprise everyone! I'm alive!"
