I heard a Mormon woman talk about welfare and poverty and how welfare leads to generations of leeching off the government. She was so high and mighty.

Evidently, it’s better to be dirt poor than be poor and asking for assistance.

She’s a work too. To her, Romney’s a RINO for taking a principled stand (ie, telling a lying congressperson to quit).

It is disturbing to see people like her. No compassion. Mormonism seems to enforce a feeling of superiority. I see this too with hard core Evangelicals.

I was thinking just today that the U.S. needs to provide subsidized childcare for workers, just as other first-world countries do. For too many families, childcare is unaffordable. We should be encouraging people to work instead of punishing them for trying to do so.

I also support existing food help, both through the government assistance, and also through food pantries. And I would love to see a nationalized health care system, including free birth control across the board.

In terms of public housing (assuming subsidized childcare is in place,) I think it should be reserved solely for the elderly and disabled.

We need to think more in terms of how to help people get off of public assistance, i.e. through apprenticeships and job training. When you are poor, it is very difficult to dig your way out of that.

I agree wholeheartedly. And so do Americans.

Whites in states that are whiter than other states support helping the less fortunate more than whites in racially diverse states.

It all comes back to race.

And “I’m different.” I know so many Mormons taking advantage of military benefits, at taxpayers’ expense, to have free childcare and doctor visits. But that’s okay. This socialism is okay.

Military benefits are earned, just like any other job benefits.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I live in Maryland, which is racially diverse.

Those benefits are no more earned than a teacher or librarian.
All costs paid for by the US taxpayers… no other jobs or position allows for this generous benefit.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m for universal healthcare but let’s not be selective on who gets it. And if you get it don’t gripe about socialism and poor people.

Poor white people = welfare good.

“Those people” = welfare bad.

Be a school teacher or be in the military. I can't imagine being in the military. I've read my grandfather's life story he wrote himself about being in WWI. Then coming home to the depression. He was one of the best people I've ever known and had such a good attitude towards life.

I also know Vietnam vets. Traumatized by what they dealt with. I also know some WWII vets or knew them. They have passed away. I'd go find the story of a friend whose ship was hit and they floated in the ocean for days. They were considered lost in action. My grandfather was listed as lost in action in WWI. In WWI they walked everywhere.

I'm sure they didn't want to serve, but did. Have you seen all the disabled men who have come back with major injuries? I've seen one on a commercial who was burned from head to toe. You can't even make out his face. His nose is 2 holes in his face.

Now tell me again we shouldn't give the veterans benefits?????? I'd go without and pay more into taxes than allow them to go without benefits. Your comments make me sick to my stomach.

I agree. I think that active military along with veteran's benefits fall under "the least we can do."
