And I will take of the treasures of that earth, stocks and bonds, and buy up companies and properties, political power...

The church has just been very good at managing what money it get’s. They have a surplus of tithing after paying expenses and they invested it and grew it.

Going to cash tithing was controversial. The church tried to avoid it and Lorenzo Snow finally gave in because the church had major debts to pay.
