The Bible and Jesus.
What is the earliest mention of him having lived, trial, miracles, ministry - whatever?

Someone somewhere, government or private - must have written something about him while he was supposedly alive. trial/crucifixion - malcontent causing unrest... something/anything?

Anything been found other than scriptural references long after he was supposed to have lived?

Nobody has come up with any such mention. Don't think that Christian apologists haven't tried. Desperately.

I’m going from memory, which is dangerous, but I remember from Sunday school that there was relatively contemporary historian who mentioned Jesus (Josephus?).

Flavius Josephus is a curious mixture. On the one hand he claims to have been one of two survivors of a mass suicide that he inspired and to have enjoyed his own prophetic revelations--stories both of which strain credulity. On the other, he definitely knew a lot about Judea and Judaism and provides considerable insight into early Christian history.

Yet in any case he wrote in the latter third of the first century, putting him thirty years after Jesus and contemporaneous with the earliest gospels. So his account is no better than the canonical ones: informed of Palestinian tales but based ultimately on collective memories, many of them contradictory.

Josephus talks of James the Just the brother of Jesus. But if memory serves me, the only paragraph mentioning Jesus was added in much later by a "well meaning scribe".

I believe Tacitus mentions christians but nothing about Jesus.
