My dad left the church a while ago.

The extended family has talked about him behind his back since then telling each other and old friends things that aren't even close to true about him

He's quiet and kind and honest and doesn't deserve any of it.

I'm an adult now and confronted my Grandpa who is the main reason this has happened.

He told me that anyone who leaves the church after being on mission and being in leadership (my dad was in bishopric) has done something in their life that caused them to lose the spirit.

I asked him for examples. He said pornography, cheating on spouse, lying, stuff like that. I asked him if that's the kind of thing they talk about behind my dads back.

He wouldn't answer.

I hope you asked if he had any evidence of any of these.
I hope you verbally kicked his butt for at least not standing up for his son at least a bit.
And of course if he has no evidence, let him know that is slander and he and his backstabbing no-gooders can be sued for it.

They got nuthin' but they won't admit it or they have to believe the truth --that your Dad left cuz he's a good honest guy and figured out the lie.

Kinda makes you wonder what Jeff Holland did wrong to cause God to ruin Jeff's opportunity to testify at SUU. ;P

Had the same said about me which was a catalyst for a daughter getting out too. She knew better.

I was treated that way. And it has left a lasting scar. However, the truth is out. My life is firing on all cylinders, and the liars are stuck in ruts. It’s plain for all to see. As they say, don’t worry about telling your side of the story. Time will. And it has.
