Just saw the story about a new prez for BYUI....and my first thought upon seeing his photo was, "sure are a lot of bald guys amongst the GA's". You'd think with the immense power they claim to possess, they could so a laying on of hands and command those follicles to get with it and grown some hair!!

We won't get fooled again.

I think the term President at BYUI is misleading. It should be commandant, or comrade.

Why do they need 3 BYUS? I doubt they have enough mormons to fill one BYU.

Well, they need to keep the one in Hawaii, in case Canadian law is ever changed to say that charitable donations can only be sent to foreign colleges that are not on the same continent.

They have more than enough Mormons to fill one BYU. Utah Valley University is the consolation prize for people who couldn’t get into BYU. It is now the largest school in the state at about 40,000 students.

Not all the students are LDS and they also offer scholarships. For some working class Americans it may be the only way they can go to university.

Plus if they join the church they get a 10% discount on tuition.

The traditional university route no longer makes sense for a huge portion of the population. It’s an idea that has outlived its usefulness.

It needs help, that's for sure. Back when I was in college in the 70s, you could pay for your education at any public school out of pocket or through financial aid, most of which was grants or work-study. Getting a college degree at a state school didn't enslave you for years and years. By the time I went to grad school in the '90s, the cost was escalating. My grad school went on a building binge and a technology binge, none of which was a benefit to me. And now, the costs are just ridiculous.
