Good morning and very, very long time since I’ve seen everyone here.

I’ve come back in search of guidance. I’m working on an art piece and I find myself in need of old bom’s, yW manuals, for the strength of youth pamphlets, miracle of forgiveness, etc.

If anyone has any or knows of where I could look, your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Nls27- Lisa

I’m currently near Omaha, NE. I’ve got a friend looking in Utah. I’ll definitely check the thrift shops here too!

If you're hunting for old lesson manuals, I don't think you'll find those at DI because they know that members only use the latest or greatest. There's no resell value on LDS church stuff. I know that some members think every LDS church publication has "great" value- oh someone will read this and want to join the church. But the reality is that people are fairly astute and recognize crap right away.

Check antique dealers to. I've seen many old Mormon books in those businesses.

Why is it removed from the internet?

Because it's copyrighted material. And even if printed "doctrine" is 100% within the realm of the church's teachings today (and perceived unoffensive~ benign) there's no guarantee that the printed material will be obsolete tomorrow.

I have to wonder how many church loving members scanned older church manuals into their church loving blogs/personal websites (thinking church approved lessons from the 1980s-1990s make good resources for Sunday school teachers) have been contacted and warned by LDS lawyers to remove copyrighted materials.

The TBMs were ordered several years ago to get rid of old church magazines and publications. There was also a decree to clean out all the old stuff from church libraries. LDS,Inc. didn't want members using them as references.

When my siblings and I cleaned out my parent's home my brother threw away stacks of old church magazines from the 60's, 70's 80's 90's. Etc. I went to the black bin garbage can and retrieved stacks of old Ensigns,The New Era, and some Children's Friends, etc. My TBM bro saw me and got all pissed with me and wanted to know what I was doing.

"I want them--- you threw them out" is all I said. We almost came to blows over those old church magazines. That is how bad the church wants some of those things from the past GONE.

So be glad for anything you can find.Check ebay, I have picked up a few good things there.

You fought the good fight. I don't have any of the old magazines but I have kept a ton of old history and doctrinal books going all the way back to the church's foundation.

That stuff is the raw material of accurate history.

True!!!

It was disturbing and disheartening to see a stack of Christ posters/paintings dumped into the church waste cans. The chapel library had updated its inventory and many older ~ dare I say Catholic style ones were tossed. These weren't ones with glowing sacred hearts but ones that had a darker theme, more pain inflicted mood than the smiling savior ones that the church contracted.

You can get absolutely anything on Ebay.

Old lesson manuals, old Improvement eras -- anything.

No attempt to destroy all copies of a publication has ever succeeded.

If just ONE copy remains, more will be made.

Just ask the Tanners.

And don't forget BY tried to gather up and destroy all copies of Lucy's Book.

That didn't work either.

Old videos: https://www.youtube.com/@HardtoFindMormonVideos

For Journal of Discourses: https://journalofdiscourses.com/

For Joseph Smith: https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/

For past copies of Publications: Archive it has copies going back to 1971
https://archive-it.org/collections/7371

or Tim Riker has one for just Ensign: https://www.rikers.org/lds/ensign/2008-03s/02.html

For past rites, creeds, scriptures: there's a mormon/non-mormon collaboration on "saving" some of the things. e.g. the second anointing rite:
https://www.lds-mormon.com/2danointing-shtml/

For pamphlets, etc... you may need just the title, e.g. "For young men only" or guide to family finance, the church still produces them, but sells them. I'm sure, they've also edited the heck out these...but you can buy them on the church's website in their store, e.g. https://store.churchofjesuschrist.org/ProductDisplay?productId=3074457345616682376&catalogId=3074457345616676768&langId=-1&storeId=10151&krypto=3sq6zyhzHl32dXokMw%2BPnfzHNVablTZ28vlpCo3e1RMTGx7rxdCCeAkF4tvPlO6Gns%2F9tTd34yT%2FEiti09G0HZ7KuBBEPMMi1XNGNbEWBMn9fRaX7VWNkvH1NmY6UEkFmSo0Kkt4Oqo%2FajTqDnDMEOXt%2FvAR7S7YVdubBe%2BftTgWEBk25iyKCHEbJQG%2B7L3HA1LknMni0l6JR0WmH9u2Bw%3D%3D&ddkey=https%3ASetCurrencyPreference

I'd love to see old lit about native Americans and making them "white and delightsome," or old lit about the Church Indian program where to took little kids from home and tried to turn them into B of M totin, 1950s businessmen.
