Once again I had no idea about it.

Yes, I have resigned from Mormonism in 2013 but in all my years as an active member, I have not heard of Joseph Smith going to Salem to treasure hunt.

I took a deep dive one time into why Joseph really went to Salem. Now I am interested in this Ensign Peak Foundation.

As I recall it was #6 Union Street. I would not be surprised if the mormon church owns it. I don't think Joseph was able to rent the house he wanted to.

I always find it interesting what was and wasn't taught before correlation.

In the 60s in my neck of Utah this trip to Salem was sell known.

I think post correlation it was probably not considered a "useful truth" and was most likely glossed over.

My theory is that Joseph, who lived in salem right after his leg operation, may well have heard or remembered a story of someone wealthy and pursued that end.

Joseph Smith's GGGF Samuel was a "witness" in the 1692 Salem witch trials. He (with others) testified against Mary Easty, who was found guilty and hanged.

"Other people testified as well, such as Samuel Smith who said five years earlier he had gotten into an argument with Mary Easty at her house and when he was returning home he suffered a blow to his shoulder from an invisible force and heard a nearby stone wall rattle."

Eff that whole superstitious family. What's that scriptural line? Something about "a bad tree brings forth bad fruit."
