In some places Costco liquor has separate entrances due to local laws. As in you can’t limit sales to members. In MN since we don’t allow liquor sales in grocery stores they have separate entrances.

Perhaps they are smart enough to recognize that on many products Walmart is cheaper. Why pay more for the same can of peas at that "better grocery store"
Exactly. Many mormons have a lot of mouths to feed so getting the best deal on food is a big deal! It's all about cost. After my divorce in 2000, I was paying child support and alimony, plus a couple thousand extra a month to pay for some education for my ex (which she just spent, never did go to school).
Alimony and the extra cash was for 3 years and child support was less as the kids came to live with me about a year or so after the split.
Money was tight during those years and Walmart was one of the places I shopped because it was cheap.
Right, it's less expensive overall, and if you have a large family, and/or you are forking over 10% of your income to a church, every penny counts. They probably like Costco, Sam's Club, and similar stores as well.
I've shopped weekly at Wal-Mart for many years. I will also hit up other grocery stores for selected items, but the bulk of my shopping is done at Wal-Mart. I always buy most of my school supplies there as well -- 50 cents each for a box of Crayola crayons, or a composition notebook. The cashier has never blinked when I come through her line with fifty boxes of crayons, or multiple crates of notebooks.
I haven’t the foggiest idea who my ex-ward members are, so I’d never recognize them. A better grocery store is within walking distance, so I go there when I want some exercise and don’t want to abuse my car with the slightly longer distance to a mid-level grocery.
I drive to the mid-level store.
The number of times I go to Walmart in a year can be counted on my thumbs. I don’t care for the store, it is 3 miles away, and difficult to get to from where I live.
My sister and her husband were teaching on the reservation. They talked about it all the time and we loved going there when we'd visit. I've never had a problem with Walmart in terms of I shop there all the time as they are much cheaper and I was a single mother. I bought myself a few coats this year on clearance for $5 a piece and I've had positive comments every time I've worn my favorite one. I got one for my daughter and she is in Alaska and said give it to my sister--and my sister loves it. I'm not embarrassed to wear Walmart clothes.
I shop where I get the best bargains.
My boyfriend came to visit right after we had reconnected years ago and he popped a tire on my car. It was Sunday and he had to catch his plane to his job in CA the next morning. Guess where the only place was to get tires on a Sunday in Utah? He has liked the store ever since. He couldn't understand why I shopped there.
I don't buy my meat there as I was told to use hamburger to get my tiny dog with a bad heart to take his pills, put them in a little raw hamburger. I usually get the local store's hamburger. He ate it no problem. I got some at Walmart one day and he wouldn't touch it.
I don't have to go to Walmart to see ex ward members. I just go out my front door.

Too Funny and true! Now most the time I might recognize them but they don't recognize me. But occasionally one of the women may star me down.
So this one time I said "Ma'am you lookin at me like you know me do we know each other from someplace" so she said... "yes you have seen me a church but you would be more aquainted with my husband Brother (so and So)"
So I then responded "So sorry ma'am you might be mistaken. But I sure would like to get to know you". -----then she ran away!
I don't typically shop at Walmart, but I've seen the missionaries who live in the neighborhood at the local Target on their day off, with their name tags as a dead giveaway. For me, Target is closer than Walmart, which is why I tend to shop there instead.
Now, I wouldn't even recognize someone who attends the building I once did, after the wards were combined, as it's been 20 years since I resigned. I doubt they would recognize me as I've had 2 piercings in each ear, and my hair has a lot of grays in it as I'm in my late 40's.
