My local news was just interrupted with a report that Robbie Robertson of the group The Band has died. The Last Waltz is one of my all time favourite albums, and I’ve watched the documentary movie of the same name more than once. Feeling sad!

I’m going to have to dig out the album, because all I can hear in my head at the moment is “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”.

I heard about it too. He was a talent.

We need to tell Dave.

Had to play some of Robbie's music when I heard the sad news.

Don't know this Robbie Robertson. For a moment I thought it was about Andy (aka Robbie) Robertson who plays for Liverpool FC. With the season about to start this weekend you can see where my mind is.

Jaime Royal "Robbie" Robertson’s mother was Cayuga and Mohawk. Spent some early life on the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve near Brantford, Ontario in the 1940s. He went on to worldwide fame and a long friendship with Martin Scorsese:

Scorsese: “Long before we ever met, his music played a central role in my life—me and millions and millions of other people all over this world. The Band’s music, and Robbie’s own later solo music, seemed to come from the deepest place at the heart of this continent, its traditions and tragedies and joys. It goes without saying that he was a giant, that his effect on the art form was profound and lasting. There’s never enough time with anyone you love. And I loved Robbie.”

Human, swimming along somewhere down a crazy river
