Here's a new book that's not worth reading from Ms. Dew. It's being promoted about why 90 year old men are really valuable as prophets. "Prophets See Around Corners" and I retort - Yet they can't see all the harm and misery in their rear view mirror (abuse, misogynic vision, racism, extreme homophobia, suicides and mental illness).

The hook that is supposed to get members to buy this book is "firsthand witness that these inspired men are indeed called of God and that they have the ability to help us in ways no other leader or influencer can." It also states "Author Sheri Dew has had the unique opportunity to be in the presence of prophets, seers, and revelators hundreds of times, if not thousands."

I just want to go on the record and testify that I have sat on a toilet hundreds if not thousands of times and have flushed my grand toilet to no end. And that doesn't make me an expert in plumbing and I shall write no book about crap. And neither should Ms. Dew.

...although a perusal of the eight books allegedly written by her and currently for sale on Amazon, none seems to be the one you describe.

Well, I used your material in an Amazon review, after you ID'd the book for me.

I said I was quoting you, after we met at a Dog Park... (spell it backwards!)

Amazon then said it could take up to a week to 'approve' the comment, so there's a possibility that it may not make it through the vetting process, which will piss me off, as much as they profit from me...

It's another example of bull$hit talk. I have the ability to run a marathon. I choose not to though mostly because I am too lazy plus I don't want to hurt my knees. So having the ability to do something isn't really saying anything unless the person actually does it.

Ms. Dew claiming that the prophet has the ability to help people "in ways that no other leader or influencer can" doesn't really mean anything unless she sites examples of how he has actually helped people in ways NO ONE else has. I'm sure I will be unimpressed with her answers, if she has any.

I have never read a book written by Miss Sherrie Dew, and I hope never to get the chance (I haven't seen any printed in braille by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped) so here's hoping that I'm never tempted.

But even if one were in braille in front of my nose, it would be hard to tempt me to actually read it. I mean I've heard that woman in a radio interview many moons ago and she sounded horrible. And she lies. Even when she doesn't have to lie, she lies (I'm talking about her comments after Gordon Hinckley's death about how the LDs church would "pick" its next prophet.)

But hell, this new book which I won't be reading is based on a lie. The lie is that some old man or group of old men sitting inside a temple in the middle of Salt Lake City know everything there is to know about the human race. If that were the case, then we should be seeing trips by every branch of the sciences to said temple to ask these old men the answers to modern questions regarding physics and DNA structures and bacteria and human-caused climate change and...well, you get the picture.

And if you don't realize it, no such ongoing throng of scientists and other such intelligent people have ever appeared outside of the temple in Salt Lake City, because they are too busy learning about the sciences that these old men whom Miss Dew regards as "prophets" know absolutely nothing about. (Even if the current "prophet," is a former heart surgeon, he knows nothing outside anything of his field of study, and I'm guessing that he hasn't kept up with his former profession in years!)

But the whole point of my response is that Miss Dew is absolutely and entirely wrong! I don't even have to have read her books to know this. All I have to know is that the entire concept of prophesy in which one man or a group of men, no matter how old they are, is ludacrous, because there is so much knowledge in so many different fields that no one man or group of men would ever know it all. So no, I will never be tempted to read this, or any other, book written by Miss Sherrie Dew!

There is a very human tendency to hero-worship, and to put certain people on pedestals. If anyone attempts to put a more human face on those people, the masses will get very, very angry, because they do not want to see their heroes disparaged in even the slightest way. With her book, Sherry is catering to those people.

When it comes to the "prophet" and "apostles," Mormonism encourages that hero worship to a very large degree. I personally have never seen anything from the Mormon church leadership to indicate that they are the least bit inspired.

And IMO, Sherry knows better. If she has spent that much time with them, then she has seen them bark at and mistreat underlings. She has seen them when they are being nasty, disagreeable, pompous, and narcissistic. She has seen the misogyny, and the simple lack of basic human kindness and decency. But she will never say that in a book, because that is not what her intended audience wants. She is giving them what they want -- no more, and no less -- a bright and shining view of of their "heroes."

I don't know the human in question, but as a trained investigator and having winnowed what came from her 'field,' I have a good deal of faith in my conclusion that what you say she's seen, she has also become...or always was.


And it strikes me as humorous that as much as the church preaches the joy of temple marriage, and how 'settling' for just about anything warm and willing is the way to go, Sheri has escaped all criticism regarding her solitary state.


In a book I perused about mormonism, mention was made of the possibility of two gay men in a committed relationship "marrying" two gay women, equally committed, and then two married couples could live next door to each other and they could take frequent joint vacations...


Just how much of a ruckus could she raise if she weren't allowed to receive the 2nd Annoying?

I'm with blindguy - will not be reading the book. Good to hear about it from you all though.

Fortunately for me, way up here in Canada, the proximity to Mormonism is as remote as one wishes it to be.

It was long ago before the husband left, so a long, long time. She talked about being single and how she dealt with it.

Those old men helped myself and my family so very much that I find myself outside the church, as well as other members of my family who left because of my experiences.
