One of the perks of being alive is music that when you hear it, you can't keep your legs still.

Like any good modern human, I have playlists...  The great majority of my self-selected music is darkly tinged, moody, yet tinged with a hint of light optimism, you know, a nice tanned, uppity, Lamanite vintage redolent with memories of bygone eras, some Improvement, some besotted, and one bespoke...

But occasionally a song will surface with a beat...a beat that stirs memories and my feet start to twitch...and the blood starts stuttering and revving...and next thing you know, I'm on my feet, waving a hatchet, looking for wagon trains!

This one just snuck in:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmR2IZjuMVc&list=PPSV

It felt good!

Please, what's a song you have handy that stirs the blood and makes the fast twitch and slow twitch muscles in your legs do the pompatus of love?

Fun! Good song.

Here's an oldie that does that twitch thing for me. Anyone remember it? It was before I knew what reggae even was.
Desmond Deckker and the Aces Israelites.

I had to look up why he named it that. It's not exactly a cheerful song but I loved the beat and bass vocal.

You picked some great ones below! Of course, I'm FAR too young to remember any of those.

One of the things I love about good reggae is the poetic imagery of it: sometimes even Biblical imagery.

This one isn't quite as danceable but I think it is beautiful.

It's very odd that I was thinking about that very song a couple of days ago trying to remember who sang it.

You're talkin my language. 60s n 70s reggae and dub is my jam. Dekker's Archie Wah Wah is another of his that moves. However, I wish to share Slim Smith and The Uniques' take on The Temptations' You'll Lose a Precious Love. Truly sublome, imho.

. . . but you caught me in a reggae mood!

First, a conservative choice that most will recall although perhaps not as performed by Jimmy Cliff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c

Second, a love story that may ultimately have been inspired by Angel of the Morning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3O-1bfdWAI

Third, my favorite version of Johnny B Roy. . .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9G_IeVMXvc

Fourth, a piece based loosely on EOD's youthful exuberance that, in retrospect, explains so very much.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssVj50ombaM

I may have to update this list later but right now I have some pompatus to love.

In my teen years these could make me even more moody.

- Fleetwood Mac - The chain

- Kansas - Dust in the Wind

- Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper

And I must admit, I did like Barbara Streisand. She could really belt out a song, and make you sit up.

As a kid I loved hearing sixteen tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford. It was a favorite of my Dad and I grew to like it a lot also.

Later, a favorite I couldn't get enough of was Don't Worry, Be Happy and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.

Killing Me Softly was a favorite for a long time.

Recently I was hooked by the sea shanty The Wellerman. I don't know why, but I could listen to this over and over.

Smith Westerns--"Weekend" from the Dye It Blonde album. The whole album has great guitar.

Mando Diao-- "I Will Go Out Tonight"

Harry Styles--"Sign of the times"

And an oldie that makes me crazy: Beau Brummels, "Laugh laugh".

You stirred some old, old memories and I had fun running with them...

Here's what I'll share with you:  While attending a cinema in Guadalajara with my last senior companion, I made him sit through two showings of "What's New Pussycat."  What a horrible for missionaries to view!  It's all about sex!

So during the second showing, the film breaks, a not uncommon event in Mexican movie houses...  There are some groans and moans and then a strident, older-female sounding voice yells out:  "¡Ya deja la botella, cácaro!"

"¡Ya deja la botella, cácaro!" has become my go-to imprecation when faced with incompetence.

(And yes, Gladys will not be able to stop herself from hurling this at me in the near future.  She's so transparent...)

The first time I heard this one I walking home from Park Market, down Linden, and had just reached the chapel, at 9th and Linden...  This was in 1957.  I was holding a little battery-powered radio, listening to one of the two rock 'n roll stations...

The fact that I was next to the chapel and the title of the song is "The Garden of Eden" was a message!

I stumbled across this performance on Youtube some years ago. The lyrics are not just moody, they are slit-your-wrists dystopian, and the tune underneath is hopping, with great choreography.

The technical term for a song like this is "sad banger". This one is great. It's pushing 40 years old, and is still the closing number at her concerts, as in this video.

Yeah, French. You can do the subtitles in English or French

Thanks!  Here's a trade, also French...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-roGMGyFu0&list=PPSV

the following is a note from the comments:

"This video is from Lara’s concert “Nue” in Paris in 2002.  It really shows how much Lara’s fans love and support her.  Here is a short story behind that performance: Lara had some serious problems in her professional and personal life at that time (2000-2002).

"Her fans knew about that and they wanted to express their love and support to Lara during her concert in Paris.  A group of Lara’s fans approached her pianist and musical director, Pierre Grimard, before the concert and agreed that they would begin to sing that song "Je T'aime" before Lara.

"When they sang, they changed the words "Je t'aime" (I love you) to “On t’aime” which means “We love you”.  The entire audience (more than 6000 people!) sang to her.  Can you imagine this?

"Later Lara said that during this moment she realized the beauty of life, and that it’s really worth living it."

This one (same artist) touches some, but I can see why others might consider it overwrought.  I waver...  Probably how it affects one depends on one's state of mind.

Re the Guinea pig hair style - Mylène Farmer is know for doing a signature hairstyle with each concert tour, and having a different arrangement of backup dancers each time too. In the video I posted, all the dancers were black females.

Here's one with a hair tiara, and mixed gender dancers, all wearing tutus and patterned nylons. The guitarists were wearing clerical vests and collars, but no shirts. The backup singers had jihabs and strapless gowns,
