So one of my lady friends gave me a book shortly before thanksgiving.

She is very Mormon and very Mormony.

This book is by Sheri Dew.

I left it in my bag by accident, which I thought was fortunate at first. I was going to visit family over Thanksgiving.

Bored on the Bus, I got this out to read it.

After the first chapter and a half I couldn't read anymore. I would rather be bored and stare out the window than read it.

The part I read simply seems to be her humble bragging about how important she is and how she's done such important things and is so holy and righteous.

It actually made me mad.

So, I still have the book. It's a nice enough looking book. Not sure what I should do with it. Just thinking about it makes me upset and angry.

It's an entire attitude of Holier than Thou which I get from the book.

How do member read this stuff and not get angry at these people?

What should I do with the book?

All believing mormons think they are extra "special".

Prophets know what kind of underwear you have on too. Not quite x-ray vision, but they know.

Fast (between meals) and then write on the flyleaf just how stinky and revolting her bullcrap is and then mail it to her.

This isn't necessary, but if the spirit moves you, sign it, "Love, Gladys Lot."

"I was going to suggest that Betty G send the book to you since you are such a reader and stuff. And in that case the signature would be deliciously ironic, don't you think?"

You're just upset that you're still finding glitter in your carpet three years later.

Saw this on a t-shirt at work today....Saw dust is glitter for men.

LW, you should try it in your cards next time.

So he still has glitter falling out of his a$$ after 3 years? Who puts a card there? I just toss mine in the trash after a while.

An example of seeing round corners.

https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/first-presidency-message-covid-19-august-2021

The First Presidency Urges Latter-day Saints to Wear Face Masks When Needed and Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19“We can win this war if everyone will follow the wise and thoughtful recommendations of medical experts and government leaders”

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent the following message on Thursday, August 12, 2021, to Church members around the world:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

We find ourselves fighting a war against the ravages of COVID-19 and its variants, an unrelenting pandemic. We want to do all we can to limit the spread of these viruses. We know that protection from the diseases they cause can only be achieved by immunizing a very high percentage of the population.

To limit exposure to these viruses, we urge the use of face masks in public meetings whenever social distancing is not possible. To provide personal protection from such severe infections, we urge individuals to be vaccinated. Available vaccines have proven to be both safe and effective.

We can win this war if everyone will follow the wise and thoughtful recommendations of medical experts and government leaders. Please know of our sincere love and great concern for all of God’s children.

The First Presidency

Russell M. Nelson
Dallin H. Oaks
Henry B. Eyring

Urging church members to wear masks, social distance and get vaccinated during the COVID-19 pandemic had nothing to do with "seeing around corners." The church leaders were wisely following CDC guidelines. It's one thing they got right.

You can't polish a you-know-what. There are three issues here whichever way you look at it:

* Failure #1: Nelson and the FP failed to foresee Covid. He didn't see around that corner, did he?
* Failure #2: Nelson was behind the curve even after Covid. Note the date – August of 2021 – by then, many members had already had the shots and their effects were well known by then. That's not seeing around a corner either, is it?
* Failure #3: Apart from a single line, the letter is entirely unoriginal. There is only one line in this which reads like it could potentially come from a prophet:- "Please know of our sincere love and great concern for all of God’s children." The rest is a completely uninspired recycling of the same words and phrases we heard from other sources. There was nothing new or prophetic in that letter. I received practically the same thing from my doctor. My doctor doesn't claim to be a prophet.

Subtext. “I’m terrified that Covid will spread up the line of authority and reach my sorry high-risk butt, and I also know that any laying on of hands, no matter how recently washed, cannot save the day.” OK. I am being a bit cynical. There were several fundamentalist congregations in my area that told their parishioners to come to church and the Lord would watch over them - sadly, people did die. At least TSCC’s first presidency gave clear, solid direction. What was surprising is that here in the South, some members still resisted wearing masks and getting vaccinated.

Gee, you'd think as old men who believe in an afterlife and priesthood healing that they'd not be scared or something? You're right. They're scared of dying.

Throw it out. You really don't want anyone else exposed to that tripe.

I agree with summer; that book needs some humbling up, so let it go to the lowly trash bin.

Reckon I never realized old Russ was bug eyed enough to see around a corner.

I love books, but as many have suggested, though it pains me to throw away any book, that may be the best idea.

If it were a good book, you could donate it to a library. But Sheri Dew?

Do the world a favor.

With an X-acto knife, and carve out a secret compartment in the interior pages. No one would want to open that book.

These mormon authors will sometimes write two versions of their book, one for the mormon population and another version without all the mormon stuff for the general population to get a bigger market share, so enterprising with their tragedies and spiritual experiences. There is a whole crap load of these books out there, people only here about the somewhat successful ones.
