I've read about kids being questioned by the Bishop. I haven't heard anything about he "adults."

Do Mormon adults need to talk to the Bishop periodically? Are they under any obligation to report moral issues to the Bishop?

For example, if I were having sexual thoughts during church about a fellow member, would there be any obligation to talk to the Bishop? If so, what would I do in the event of a conflict of interest?

The first criterion is rank; if you're the same rank, then time in that rank dictates...

Hmmmm . . .

What would constitute a conflict of interest?

Listen to EOD on these points. There’s no one ranker than he.

If you are talking about having the hots for the bishop's wife, there is no hard requirement.

Members who wish to attend their special clubhouse must pass a temple worthiness interview, which involves a specific (publicly available) set of questions. They are interested in actions, not thoughts. The church's stance on gays is great evidence of this. You can have all the urges you want as long as you don't act on them. It really stokes the fires of sexual tension. I am glad I left that freak show behind me.

“It really stokes the fires of sexual tension”

Sounds like it makes it more fun when you finally let loose—

Having been raised in the church, going on a mission, and following the rules until I got a clue. I can tell you this.

Do adults get questioned by the Bishop? Yes! He may call you in based upon rumors, something he noticed, or the Sunday morning leadership meeting gossip.

However, the majority of believing adults go to the Bishop thinking he is all knowing and all spiritual. Many flock (pun intended) to him for advice or to spill their guts. Which may include having the hots for that sister who bares her shoulders, since their guilt complex runs deep.

For myself, I learned at an early age. "Never, ever, ever....tell the bishop anything! I was really good at withholding information when asked questions while keeping on a expressionless face. If you let any cat out of the bag, be assured that you will run a gauntlet of shame, quilt, whispers, and judgement. Add to that what you will have to put up with from the bishop as he decides how you have to redeem yourself per his direction.

This is a safe place to disclose what was going on behind that straight face . . . :)

This makes me think of scientology . . . the interviews and personal disclosures that can be held over your head. Smart person to keep it to yourself.

Very good advice. Unfortunately, it really depends on the bishop and an asshat one will eventually fleece your mind. As a 12 year old deacon, I volunteered nothing and denied have impure thoughts.

And what resulted?

Bishop- So if you don't think of girls then how long have you been attracted to men?

I was forever thought as a closet homosexual and the YM leader really blew a gasket when I shaved my legs for sports taping my wobbly ankles.

I can relate. While on my mission, I had a Ward member assigned as the "Ward Correlation Specialist", who figured since the girls paid attention to me and giggled in my presence that something was amiss. When he confronted me, I told him to keep his dirty mind to himself. Followed up by "Go to Hell", when he attempted to wring a confession from me.

To this day I have no doubt my membership records warn any Bishop that I was a player during my mission. Even keeping ones mouth closed does not prevent the local ward Jerk from exercising their unrighteous dominion.

If that were required, there would be a line, for the bishops office, out the door!!!

The answer is yes.

To this day I cringe when i think about how I volunteered information because I thought they were inspired and my salvation depended on it.

It's a sick, sex crazed cult and I am SO GLAD to be free of its insidious clutches.

Ward council accusations compelled the bishop to call members in. He usually called them directly to meet with him at his home. If the accused denied having an affair, he would confer with the stake president on the next step of action, almost always a court of love to discipline the cheating husband (only one time was a wife stepping out on the man).

Intimate details were never discussed other than a confirmation that the law of chastity was being broken.

Still tired from early morning bishopric meetings.

Lots of cheating men, only one cheating woman?

She must have been quite busy.

Yes, they are. They can't force you to come in though, only withhold a temple recommend.
