Again ex Mo me thinks that Russel M Nelson is doing that to appear more mainstream Christian. By focusing less on the Book of Mormon scriptures. When I was in seminary I had to memorize some scriptures. Or is there a low seminary attendance rate and so the prophet got the revelations to make it more fun. No I have no inside scope of what's going on. The temple movie has been changed a couple of months ago supposedly now before making the covenants there is an informed consent or something like that. When I went through the temple 2003 I was very unprepared for the law of how was it called again? Giving everything for the building up of the kingdom even your own life. Oh I was scared but I bout my head and said yes.

There's another take on these lessons:  That they are in response to the youth of the church bailing out of the church at a much higher rate than any of the adult cohorts.

These lessons will stem that tide!

Yay, ghawd!!  You're inscrutable, fruitable, and root-toot-tootable!!*

God toots may be part of prophecy if fart lighting is related to the Earth's purification by fire.

>> In response to the evolving needs of today’s youth... <<

The youth are evolving out of the church.

>> In his remarks, Elder Christofferson said he was excited — even intrigued — by the new thematic lessons for seminary. “To me, this seems like adding some extra fruit and a fresh ‘pinch’ of seasoning to the pie. It’s going to be delicious,” he said. <<

Say's the old white dude in a suit. How about asking the youth how it tastes? Extra fruit and fresh seasoning doesn't make a rotten pie taste better.

Here's a quote:

A few years ago, the Church tested a new course in seminary — a revised version of the institute course “Scripture Study Fundamentals.”

“After one semester, students in those classes were significantly ahead of their peers in their ability to have meaningful personal scripture study and to participate in classroom discussions,” Webb related.

What I recall from my week of early morning seminary. The teacher read the lesson manual while everyone else was asleep. The seminary teacher answered her own questions. I don't think anyone was learning anything in a passive form of leaning.

Moving ahead in my life, I was enrolled in a temple prep Sunday school class where I asked questions and was told- We can't discuss that question here or you'll find out when you go to the temple.

I learned the hard way that good teaching/learning is to read the lesson manual and regurgitate the scripted answers. No thinking involved.

Here's another great quote

Messy adds- This is why the church is losing the youth!!!

-Webb noted that the life preparation lessons will allow teachers to use their skills, experiences and gifts as sequential scripture teachers. “This is not starting over. We’re not asking you to be experts on any of these new topics. In fact, we hope none of you will take the role of parent, or therapist, counselor, or specialist."

Maybe that's why people are not socially adjusted because they do not feel connected to people. Thank goodness the church doesn't want the seminary teacher to be connected to those they teach.

I can see it now:

1. How to clean a toilet
2. How to write a tithing check
3. How to shop at City Creek Mall
4. How to humble brag

You know…life skills.

Aren't they supposed to be the chosen generation that ushers in the Millennium? They should be taught major Jesus skills. Walking on water, raising the dead, that kind of stuff.

This is the church admitting that it's losing its youth. It can tweak its seminary curriculum with more lessons and scriptures all it wants, but it won't fix the problem.

The church decided a while ago that it did not want to invest in its youth. It defunded and cancelled anything fun and made everything "gospel centered." There are some kids who probably leave the church because they find that it isn't true, but I don't think that's the biggest issue for most teens and young adults who decide to step away. I suspect that for the vast majority of youth who leave, the church has just bored them to death first. When they see that there isn't anything there for them, they then become aware of all of its other problems and they're gone for good.

There are times when I worry that Celestial Kingdom isn't going to be fun.

What if there are rules like, "Y" number of wives equals "X" amount of boinking, and there really isn't all that much time to work on chipping and putting?
