The current thought is that some ward and stake leaders have been directed to NOT church discipline gay couples who are attending and holding ***minor callings.

SMARMY!

"Meaning of smarmy in English
extremely polite or helpful or showing a lot of respect in a way that is annoying or does not seem sincere: She was trying to be friendly, but she just seemed smarmy and insincere. Synonyms. fulsome formal. oily (TOO FRIENDLY)"

Throw a dog a bone. That's all this is.

>> LDS gay married couple can take the sacrament and have callings <<

Why oh why would they want to participate in a church like mormon? Maybe the church just wants their tithing?

That's a bit like the KKK saying blacks can now attend meetings and light crosses on fire......and pay KKK dues of course.

I thought the Church wanted every LDS home to hang the Proclamation of the Family on the walls of their homes. The proclamation says that marriage is between a man and a woman. How do I explain to my kids that a gay couple who is married can have church callings and be treated like other married couples in my ward? My kids ask me who made the proclamation and I told them it was told to me that it was a revelation from God.
My brother is gay and is getting married soon. But he is not LDS. The problem I have is we have a new double standard in the Church that none of the top guys want to explain.
I believe it is about money and trying to keep people in the Church and at the same time hoping none of the TBM notice.

You just described the current big confusion in the church. Nobody knows what the church is anymore. Gordo is rolling in his grave.

I find this hard to buy since members
Who do the gay marriage thing are subject to being exed.

There is a big game going on here and both sides are losing.

The move from "the other" to second class is not a move up.

The game is called PUBLICITY and its not from Milton Bradley

Bottom line. It makes the church look confused and weak. What does it stand for?

They must be celibate gays.

Celibacy of the mind is tricky.

For a certain segment of the population, Intentional Celibacy is harder than unintentional celibacy, which only requires a good book, a root canal, or too much liquor.

Reports of Celibacy of the Spirit remain unproven.

Celebrity celibacy was invented in 1940 to promote the release of Gone With The Wind.

Sadly, there have been mormon gay men who remained celibate their entire lives, surrounded by their loving wives, children and grandchildren...  One wonders if mormon gnawed will ever say, "Oops!"

Thanks for sharing the video link. I didn't realize the church was moving that far away from their own beliefs.

All the better Beliefs are malleable.

The best Beliefs are so slippery that there's no hanging onto them.

Am I understanding correctly that there are now differences in how this is treated based on your stake/ward policy?

Does anyone have any official communications to stakes/wards on this topic?

I wonder if this is just a local exception, or if it is church-wide. If it's a local exception, the church might come down hard on the couple.

In Mormonism rules change frequently. The bishops roulette some bishops are kind and some are harsh. What will happen with this couple now?

I find myself rather amused when people who seek the public eye through influencing (which can often be very lucrative) are suddenly shocked and appalled when the people who follow them choose to notice them in public, photograph them, and video them.

I'm honestly not sure where there is a line between public and private life, but when you have 160K+ followers, they are not all your close and personal friends. You are a public figure.

https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2024/02/06/mormon-stories-apologizes/

"The “Mormon Stories” podcast, known for its lengthy interviews on controversial topics, issued an official apology Tuesday for attending the worship services of a gay Latter-day Saint man and his husband and sharing details of the couple’s church activity in a recent episode and accompanying social media posts."

"The apology comes after a backlash from members of the Latter-day Saint and former Latter-day Saint LGBTQ community, who have criticized the decision to air details of the couple’s experience at Sunday services without their consent."

I’m not clear on what happened. Someone went to their church and reported on their activities without their knowledge and JD broadcasted it?

Pretty much. Since both halves of the couple are influencers (one with a significant following,) I gave that a big shrug when they complained about their privacy being violated. But others were bothered by it.

Yeah as long as they are "celebrities" and make commercials for the corp. Regular run of the mill gay couples are a different story.
