https://www.abc4.com/news/national/lds-church-leader-faces-felony-after-pennsylvania-police-say-he-did-not-report-child-rape-allegations/

" A Pennsylvania LDS Church stake president is facing a felony charge after failing to report child sexual assault allegations against another local church leader.

Rhett Hintze, 50, a lobbyist and stake president of seven Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints congregations was allegedly aware of sex abuse allegations that took place between 1997 and 2000, when the victims were between 8 and 12 years old. Police say Hintze knew about the allegations against the suspect as early as October 2020.

Police say the man charged with the abuse, Shawn Cory Gooden, was arrested nearly two years after he and the victim “had disclosed the sexual assault” to Hintze.

In Pennsylvania, Hintze’s church leadership role made him a “mandated reporter” under the state Child Protective Services Law, which dates to 1975, according to police documents. The Pennsylvania law expanded in 2014 following the Jerry Sandusky scandal to include more categories of people as mandated reporters and to increase the penalties for not reporting allegations."

Wow.

The outcome of these cases depends on the law in the particular state. It's nice to read that PA is so far ahead of most of the rest of the country.

Bravo.

“The charges now brought by local prosecutors for failing to report the abuse are misguided, and the Church [sic] will vigorously defend him.”

Protecting, defending, or seeking justice on behalf of children is “misguided.” SMH

<SIGH!>*

Man's Ways and ghawd's ways are different.

Any suffering experienced by President Hintze in this life due to his obedience to ghawd's ways will be rewarded three-fold, or maybe even seven-fold, or even 11-fold, in the next life, whichever prime number is selected by a just and loving ghawd...

There's a reason Prime Numbers exist, although they are not to confused with the Prim Numbers Gladys Lot used to wear to Gold & Green Balls.

Anyone ever put into print the reason the church named them Gold & Green Balls?  It was because gold is valuable, and so is Green in America, as in green backs.

The church was just being honest, putting it out there as simply and as plainly as possible: "Wanna have a good time? Come and let's dance to gold and money, but dress appropriately; let us fantasize about all your goodies!  Wheeee!!"

*something, something; mumble, mumble, inJesusnameamen.

Everyone knows that God's laws supercede the laws of men, so why are they busting the SP's gold and green balls?

On another site there is a lot more detail about this case. It says that the SP has to pay for his legal fees. I wonder how many Priesthood brethren know that the church will not support them if in trouble with the law. This was news to me. I hope he has a record of his calls to the Church lawyers and what information he was given.(Like not report it) It will be interesting to watch it play out. I am glad to know that the Church does not have my back if I have a Priesthood leadership role like Bishop or SP.

If on the other hand he was told to report it and did not then he needs to pay the bill.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out since the church itself is not accused of anything currently. Since this guy has to pay his own way it looks like the church wants to stay out of it.
Time and lawsuits will tell.

Of course they do, just like all the other "oh, that was a local matter" dodges before this.

Remember, the church is there to take your money and loyalty, not give it.

It would really turn down the heat for him if he agreed to explain to the court exactly what happened and thus make the church look like the bad guy (that it is).

Wouldn't it be riveting testimony to have some learned Exmos explain to a jury how the church sex hotline works and the philosophy behind why it works the way it does?  If the church paid his defense costs, maybe his attorney would attack that testimony on cross-exam, but if they're not paying, "No questions, your honor..."

I'd be okay with a slap on the wrist for him if all the gnarly details came out regarding why he didn't report and it was made clear regarding how the church thinks women and children are disposable commodities when it comes to defending the 'reputation' of the church and its awesome priesthood.

The perp in this case was a bishop and SP counselor and according to this was bishop when the abuse occurred

https://floodlit.org/a/a134/

once again the question: where is church leader's discernment?

Sorry - we may need to make the case report more clear - the accused is in prison in Virginia after being convicted of child SA there, but he hasn’t been convicted of any SA in Pennsylvania - he’s been charged though. He was a bishop after the abuse in VA for which he was convicted, as well as after the alleged abuse in PA.

It still doesn’t help the case for discernment!

This person met with her bishop in April 2021 and said that she is leaving her marriage because she was gay. Her bishop told her to read the book from Charly Bird "without a mask". She said to the bishop that she has already read the book. The bishop took away her calling as a gospel doctrine teacher. The bishop also took away her temple recommend and said to her that she was not allowed to take the sacrament.
