I wanted to give my dog a change of scenery for his afternoon walk, so I took him on a short drive to a large open space area next to the house where my wife and I lived in the mid 90s. Next to the path we were walking, there is a historical monument for the Mormon Battalion. It commemorates the Cherry Creek Camp, where members of the Mormon Battalion twice briefly sheltered (once on the way to the Mexican American War, and once heading the opposite direction to meet Brigham Young's company at Fort Laramie). It was there that the first Caucasian child was born in what is now Douglas County, Colorado.
While I was reading the inscription, my dog lifted his leg and urinated on the monument.
And no, I didn’t say “good boy.” ;)
