I only attended BYU for one year (I got my degree elsewhere), but I remember everything being speshull there.
The campus? Speshull. My classes? Speshull. My professors and other instructors? Speshull (especially in religious classes). My roommates? Speshull. Everything was so f’ing speshull that I wrote a song about it:
Special, special, special, that’s BYU. BYU is a special place, Everybody here has such a special face. We walk around smiling our special smiles, We have a style of our own, and it’s a special style
Special, special, special, that’s BYU. Everything is special at BYU, If you come and join us here then you’ll be special, too. So head on out to Provo, and then you’ll see, Being special is our specialty.
My questions while visiting BYU with a Mormon friend in the mid-70s:
1. Why are the students so dressed up? Why are they not wearing blue jeans or shorts like every other college student? 2. Why does the campus look so homogenous? Everyone here looks the same. 3. What is a Lamanite and why would any group of dancers call themselves the Lamanite Generation? 4. What is this department that involves child and family studies? Is that like Home Ec? Or is it a cover for those seeking a MRS degree? 5. Why is this very attractive young women going out with a complete dweeb? So. many. questions. lol
