Like for real, not with a nod and a wink.

That's what I think when they talk about Book of Mormon characters as if they existed. They really believe they are talking about historical figures. They are as historical as Sam and Frodo.

Sometimes I wonder if they are playing along. How many members are faking it, like BYU students saying the magic words to get their 10% tuition discount. And if that's the case does it matter? It's all role-play and cosplay anyway so facts really don't matter.

Of course, 10% of your income is a lot to pay for imaginary crap. I can get it down the street much cheaper.

You obviously didn’t bother to look up member and nonmember tuition rates at BYU.

Edit to add: nonmembers pay double the tuition and fees members pay.

He reads post mormon stuff on line, too.

I had heard that nonmembers paid more at BYU, but I had never heard for sure and I never thought to ask my sister who went to BYU for a few years.

I told him if I wanted to pay less for my education, I would get baptized, but then again, you couldn't have paid me to go to BYU and live in Provo. I tried living there for a week once . . .

At least kids who believe in Santa are not singing praises of a rapist!

how much more of a lie religion is compared to Santa. I'd prefer my daughter just believed in Santa at age 38 rather than the LDS.

Not only is it like being with adults who believe in Santa Claus. They are going to shove the belief down your throat. And shun you if you don't believe the same thing.

Neither does the Filipino Santa.

I wonder how those kids feel about Santa.

At least Jesus screws everybody

That’s a good way to put it. I also notice it’s the same handful of people in the ward who have to share their testimony all the time. Most ward members stay relatively quiet. There are more unbelievers and fence sitters than believers. People put up with the church for many reasons.
