The Coyotes had been the Winnipeg Jets from 1972 to 1996. Winnipeg is a very big hockey town, because winter is 5 to 6 months long. They have ice in abundance.
Then Phoenix bought the Jets, leaving the local arena sitting empty, Winnipeg was seriously annoyed.
In 2011 Winnipeg bought the Atlanta Thrashers, and renamed them the Winnipeg Jets. There was hockey back in Winnipeg, and balance was restored to the cosmos.
Meanwhile, I don't think the Coyotes ever turned a profit in Phoenix. Now they are moving to SLC, an even smaller market. I am not optimistic they will do any better in SLC, but we shall see.
Speaking of Canada, there’s a plot line in “Infinite Jest” where there’s this place in North America called, IIRC, “The Great Concavity.” No spoilers, but if you haven’t read the book and you’re curious, google it.

Yes, I've read it. Never again! Unless tennis schools and giant hamsters are your thing. (I genuinely enjoyed some of Wallace's shorter works. I.F. not so much.)
